Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Really, who names these things?

Anyway, apparently they'll be for sale in limited numbers in 2010...

Technically, isn't everything that's for sale available in limited numbers? Is that just business-speak for "we know we'll only sell about 17 of these"?.

No, it's business-speak for "we won't make as many of these as we know people will want, and we will charge even more for them". I guarantee they will be highly in-demand, backordered out the wazoo, and you will have to know somebody to get one.

There's a joke in here about what they'll name their next saddle, but alas my blue star keeps me from posting it.

They should have...then Cancellara's first win on it could be called The Specshank Redemption.

Let's see... SL2 frameset: $2900 MSRP.

Let's do a few quick comparisions:

* Look 595: $4000 (R&A)
* Cervelo R3-SL: $3900
* Pinarello Prince: $5500 (R&A)
* Trek Madone 6.9 Pro Frameset $3500 (Helen's cycles, but hard to find Trek framesets in general).

I'm not even sure what other frames would compare... but $2900 is not the expensive option on the list.

Too bad it won't be used in any more pro tours.

Lots of 3-1 ratio violations there.

The fairing is the steerer tube.

https://www.velonews.com/article/88266

1.3.024
Any device, added or blended into the structure, that is destined to decrease, or which has the effect of decreasing, resistance to air penetration or artificially to accelerate propulsion, such as a protective screen, fuselage form of fairing or the like, shall be prohibited.

A protective screen shall be defined as a fixed component that serves as a windscreen or windbreak designed to protect another fixed element of the bicycle in order to reduce its wind resistance.

A fuselage form shall be defined as an extension or streamlining of a section. This shall be tolerated as long as the ratio between the length L and the diameter D does not exceed 3.

A fairing shall be defined as the use or adaptation of a component of the bicycle in such a fashion that it encloses a moving part of the bicycle such as the wheels or the chainset. Therefore it should be possible to pass a rigid card (like a credit card) between the fixed structure and the moving part.

They banned the Ventus aerobar because they deemed it to be an air foil as it was too thin. Yet the this 'nosecone' is more of a fairing than the Ventus is a foil.
