Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Oh, almost forgot. Did my first "gravel ride" today with 25 like minded folks. 50 miler 2500 ft. I used the Trek cross bike I picked up last year. That bike fits me pretty good for a 56. It wasn't too bad! Tough climbs on gravel, gearing is ok, could use a compact. But lots of fun and a beautiful day for it today.

That's great Gene, congrats. Love reading good news about someone's employment. It's so rare anymore.

A magnificent weather day today. A touch on the cool side, but right on the edge of short sleeve weather. Waiting for that truck all day, I only got the 15 miler in. Way better than nothing.
I am still in a space where I'm ambivalent about going for a ride, and today, just didn't feel like it, but I had to. And then I throw my leg over the saddle and all is right with the world. It seems likely that i will remain in that space until kingdom come.

The faster group was doing a hilly ride and I jumped in along the route, skipping 20 some miles and over 1000 feet of climbing. They stopped for coffee before the 23 mile climb so I took off before they were ready. Only 1 guy caught me near the first summit. We stopped at a little store and it was cold and windy and some of the riders were not prepared to descend into a headwind. They got paper and cardboard from the store and stuffed their jerseys. One of the women was shivering before we got moving.

We weren't very high but once we dropped 1500 feet, or so, it was much warmer. Pretty glad I went. Bike Route Planner - Ride with GPS

There were whitecaps on the little reservoir at the turn off.

.
the waterproof (?) USPS flat shipping envelopes can be used under a jersey if nothing else better is available

some are padded / plastic (?) - the thinner ones might be a material similar similar to Tyvek (?)

They got through it with whatever paper they found. I had long sleeve jersey plus base layer, Windstopper vest, leg warmers, and skull cap, and I was cold for the first part of the descent. Of course, we are used to temperatures above 90 and even over 100 recently.

maybe a weekend trip to Buffalo during the winter months would be a good idea (?)

we were caught in a nasty storm during a ride ; forecast was for partly sunny with low chance of rain that day lol

made it to a convenience store - no ponchos were available so we purchased trash bags

poked a hole in the bottom of the bags for our heads and some small makeshift 'pit vents' - slid the bags down over our bodies and then rode home

Had a good ride today. Somehow my FD cable broke early on so I did all the ride on the little ring, which was fine by me.

Maybe.

Today is better than yesterday, but still a scoop of real. Tomorrow's has been made with pure decaf, though I might have another cup of decaf mid-morning if needed.

Sir, you are mistaken.

The HG800 would be for

Whenever I update it to 105.

Put new cable for RD. Kept FD as they usually last longer. This one broke not at shifter but at RD bolt. Probably user error, although it does have about 5k miles on it.
