Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How's it feel to have finally flipped that stem?

All that red needs to go, in place of some white. I might be able to help you with that.

This is my Bianchi SS/FG conversion. I realize that the rear brake cable housing isn't connected to anything. I got rid of the crappy modolo brakes that came with it and bought a tektro front brake. This, of course, was all after I had already wrapped the bars. Next project will be to remove this housing and switch the right brake lever to actuate the front brake. Also, the two sides of the bars are wrapped differently, which should be changed. The BB badly needs to be serviced: it makes loud knocking sounds when I'm pedaling. I'm in the process of lacing a Campy Strada rim to an older Shimano 6600 front hub, which will look better than whatever Sun Rims wheel is on there now.

Is that an '07? I have an '07 also. In fact I have it in the same size, but I have the other color though. I will eventually upgrade everything; I was satisfied at first with the tiagra/ Sora but the upgrade bug friggin' bit me.
Is that the Original Saddle?

It's an '06 I believe. I don't think it came in my color in '07. I bought the frameset off ebay, it was from a bike shop in CT that had sold off all the other parts. The only thing original about my bike is the frame, fork, headset and stem. Everything else I found elsewhere and put on myself. I bought the bar end shifters so I can actually ride the bike. I will probably be getting ultegra 3 x 9 brifters as soon as I can afford them.

I found the the original saddle to be pretty ehhh.. You have any recommendations on a new one? Also one last thing, how tall are you / inseam? I feel a little big for my 51cm but I'm 5'7 with a 29 1/2 inseam. It could just be me though. I think a 53cm might be a little big.

I am 5'6" with a 29" inseam. I haven't put too many miles on it yet, but I am pretty comfortable on the bike and think I made a good choice with the 51cm.

As far as saddle's go, the general concensus around BF is that everyone is different and what works for some doesn't work for another. My saddle I got from my LBS. It's an OEM from a trek bike that they sold to me for $20 and I am comfortable with it. If I wasn't comfortable on my saddle, I'd start looking again. Maybe go down to your LBS and see what they have and if they'll let you try one out? Maybe you could bring your bike in and ask to try some out with your bike hooked up to a trainer?

Just finished building this up, still need to find a better post where I kinda cheaped out on this one. But it's ridable now and that's what counts.

I've been riding mountain bikes forever and commuting on a fixed gear, so this is my first geared road bike. Figured I'd see what all the fuss was about. I do need to rewrap the bars cuz I did a pretty shoddy job the first go round, but I figure I'll ride it this way till they need to be replaced.

Fausto Coppi

Just waiting to take delivery of this Fausto Coppi bike from 1997, this one was found in a warehouse in Germany it was a team bike from the defunct Coppi team. It is new old stock, It has recently been put together with Campagnolo parts. The frame is a gorgeous blue/purple colour which Americans call Burple, white graphics, built with bent tube technology and oversized tubes, very light in weight with carbon fibre forks. The groups set is a little mixed, the front and rear mechs are Campagnolo Record, the Crank set is all Campag Record, the Brake calipers are Campag Athena, the Ergo shifters are Campag Chorus, the seat Pin is Campag Aero, The seat is a lovely leather Selle Italia. The handlear stem is 3M, the handlebars are unusual as they are Scott "Drop in's" which I think suit this bike. The wheels are Campagnolo 16 spoke Shamals.

Here are some new pictures of my 2006 Specialzed Allez Elite. I took the decals off my wheels, and imo, it now looks a ton better. Here is a set of my bike pics on flickr.
