Oh believe me, it took some work to get it to this point. It had rain haze, mud splatters, and black greasy marks all over it. I went to work with some wax and grease remover, and then some 3M glaze. ALL of the chrome bits had at least a little rust on them. You couldn't tell the brass rollers were even brass, hehe.,,,,BD

Possible addition tomorrow!! Yeehaw. A CL seller had a sweet lugged steel Trek 990 single track hardtail. It looked great so I emailed them. No response! I went into the LBS today and found out it someone I already knew. Going to trade him for a road bike. He had it at the shop and I was amazed at the condition. One or two chips and some of the aluminum needs polishing, but otherwise looks
like it was never ridden. The paint looks wet it's so glossy. US made with oversized true temper tubing. Gorgeous bike!

Looks like this, but with a horizontal top tube. About the same condition or better.

EDIT::: The Ross got a much needed bath. I haven't even started the teardown and complete rebuild that will going on over the next week.

Just picked this up from a local CL listing, 1996-1997 GT Outback. The brake spring cups were cracked and the seller was looking at paying a shop to swap tires, probably fix the brakes, and a few other issues. Was listed once before, reduced and relisted when I found it. I posted about the spring cups in the mechanics section, and apparently those cups are out of production. Fortunately I had a couple of extra brake sets out in the garage and seem to be working well.

As found the bike is basically a rider once I got the brake arms swapped out. Tires got some age to them but appear good enough until spring gets here. And the stem appears to be tweaked a little bit, but I've got a spare stem from a parts bike that should work.

Paint has some chips/dings on the forks from where the seller's lock probably banged around on it, but otherwise it ain't too bad. And it feels like it fits. I'm going to keep it set up as a commuter and suburb bike. Will probably add some fenders and stuff. And I'll eventually change out the shifters, but they work well so I can procrastinate on tha upgrade.

Bought this Cannondale new in Chamonix, France in 1988. Then I rode it back home to Denmark. This was after a full summer of climbing and mountaineering, so, as a superfit 25 year old, a 1000 mile bike ride was nothing but a distraction.

Still have it. Rode it today, trying to recover from knee surgery.

1988(9?) BCA Mountain. Or at least thats all I can get from the bike. It's lacking the normal BCAmerica sticker, but has the BCA one on the driveside of the down tube. BCA is stamped into the seat stay tapers. These are before pictures with the busted Shimano shifters. I got a new set of shifters from somebody on this site (forgive me for forgetting, I think it was PaPa) with silver housings, making it look much nicer on the handlebars. It also introduced me to the world of Bio-pace components. Technically this was a light-mountain bike.

My GF uses this as a commuter to college and she loves it.

I posted this before, but I finally got around to cleaning it up and reworking the BB and headset, so I'd figure I'd show some more pics. I have a 1" fork kindly given to me by brandenjs that I need to find a headset for so I can put a different stem and bars on the bike. This is the perfect campus bike for me.

I think I finally narrowed it down to a 1985 or 1986 Ross Mt St Helens
(and yes, it's a bit small for me)

This is one of the best looking bikes I've seen in a while. I have to repaint and completely build up an MB-1 soon. This is some great inspiration. I really, really don't understand how you come upon so many incredible bikes so often. I'm super ****ing jealous.

This bike belongs to my dad. He bought the frame and fork directly for SE back in 1982(?). We made it into a mountain bike shortly after he received it. Some things have been changed through the years but, it has always run a front and rear derailleur. For those not familiar with the OM Flyer it was originally intended to be a BMX bike for old men (OM)!

Here's a great bike found at the thrift store for $50. After both our cars were stolen last Halloween I started commuting 12 mi a day (6 each way). As a laborer I began to surf around and into the real of electric bikes. I committed to not owning a car and was very excited to buy and install my front wheel w/brushless 600w motor. 36v and 12amh sla batteries and controller. My 30 min. commute became 18-15 each way. I cruise wide open all the time @ 21 mph. the small hills are smaller and any wind coming of the bay makes me tardy/tired not. I am looking forward to more volts 48? and maybe 20 amh in a lifepo package. It's fast enough, I would like to have the environmental efficiency (more charges for the life of battery) and more reserve for alternate destinations. The bike is heavy but strong, and it always felt more like a road bike. I put Michellin CITY tires on and pumped em' up to 70 psi. check out the cool reflecting material. I am now shopping for a used 1" X 7 1/2" Rock Shok to soften out some of the drama on the road. I feel great and would love to help other people get out of their cars.https://www.bikeforums.net

Exhibit A: A pretty much original and very lightly used Fisher Mt Tam I grabbed on craigs a while back for $80, added yellow fenders and some red platforms, and viola, the perfect winter commuter.

Exhibit B: My 1991 Yo Eddy. Been through numerous guises over the years, now rounding out seventeen in single-speed mode (though I have the old XT drive train). At this point the only REALLY original things on it are the BB, cranks, and sometimes pedals.

The bike rides wonderfully! By that I mean, like a smooth comfortable tank. Or an 1980s Volvo or old 300D

There are a few scratches in the paint, but nothing major and no dents. The Specialized Ground Control tire on the front still has the little mold whiskers (what are those called again?). The seller threw in an old LLBean pannier and the rack, too. The Hite-Rite sadly has a good deal of rust and the gel seat was toast so I dropped a Turbo on it..... okok, I am blabbing, but I love this bike!
