Ancheer died
My Ancheer 26" Power Plus (250w hub motor) just died. I had just come up a long steep grade a few minutes before. The lights on the display look normal.
Battery has a charge. On the chance that it was the controller, I bought and tried a new one to no avail. The windings in the motor look quite black, so I suspected the motor may be fried, but when powering it up directly to the battery, the back wheel turns. I get no power from the throttle or when it's in pedal assist mode. Any ideas as to how I can diagnose this problem?

A burned out motor is relatively simply to check. Overheating a motor causes either the insulation or wiring to melt resulting in either an open (infinite resistance) or short (zero resistance). You will need a low buck multimeter, or even battery and test light. If something is grounded out than the repair is simple: replace the motor.

I have a multimeter, just wasn't sure where to probe. I ordered one of those $10 ebike testers from Amazon. I'll see where that points me.

The ebike tester is handy, but you still have to make adapters for the connections.
And they are hit or miss on quality. Hopefully you get one that works on the first try. I was warned to order at least two.

You already have. You fried the motor. I believe you. Now, you believe you, and move on to next steps. I see where Ancheer sells the motor separately for $219. It will be at least $50 to get it laced into your existing wheel. You risk doing this again if you don't get a bigger motor or learn how to keep the 250w from overheating.

The motor and controller check out good with my tester. It was plug and play, the connectors fit perfectly! Not sure where to go from here, just testing all the connections?

The ebike tester has a lot of flashing lights but they have to flash in certain patterns, With the Hall sensor tester, you turn the wheel backward slowly and the three LED's need to flicker in sequence. If you hook the tester's hall/phase to the controller, the led's will rotate in a circle once.

It could be the display, although it lights up and all looks normal with it.
My tester is a bit different from most. Instead of having a circle of lights, they're all in straight rows.
There was one controller test I couldn't figure out, it was called "testing for angle of 60 degrees" it had 2 parts and I couldn.t decipher the Chinglish.
However, I had already bought a new controller and still no luck.
BTW, when I did the motor testing, the lights flashed through their pattern with only a few degrees of backward wheel rotation, more frequently than I expected.
Perhaps because it,s a geared motor with 6 to 1 gearing?
