Reproduction Dura Ace Hoods
A month or so ago a guy popped up here and said he was going to try to start making reproduction rubber brake hoods for many discontinued models. This recently popped up in my saved eBay searches:
Repro 7402 Hoods
I wonder if these are from the same guy? Available in both black and white. The price is tempting to me, but I'm slightly hesitant about the fit. I installed some NOS hoods a while back, and even those NOS hoods had a slightly loose fit.

They certainly look the part, but the fit on actual levers might not be great.
Have a link to the prior thread from the person who mentioned making the repops?

Hmmm. I’ve gotta think about this. At that price, compared to NOS, it might be worth taking a chance. If they’re actually using Shimano lettering/trademarks, they might not be available forever.

I get excited when I see a thread about D-A hoods, only to have my hopes dashed again and again!
I need the AX hoods, for my wife's gravel bike. We like the early-'80s (or is it late-'70s?) AX levers because the reach (i.e. hand size) is adjustable, and the "perch" fits small hands better too.
Yeah I know it's a weirdo niche product that never was a big seller even 40+ years ago when they were new. Hen's teeth now, and not enough demand to induce anyone to make repops.
...or so I thought!
Hah, just now I thought I'd search before posting this, and what should I find but:
But they leave me with one ray of hope:Anyone want to pick up the ball and run with it? Bueller?

Aero AX Brake lever hoods (Reproduction for 600AX / 7300 Dura Ace AX) – Blue / Gum Brown / White / Black £29.00 In terms of shape and form, these hoods are a perfect fit and faithful to the originals as they are made in moulds taken from new old stock (NOS) hoods.
Nice, right? But then:THIS PROJECT HAS BEEN COMPLETED.
SORRY, HOODS NO LONGER AVAILABLE.
Argh!SORRY, HOODS NO LONGER AVAILABLE.

I'm on the fence, and it appears the seller restocked -- they originally offered only three sets, and now they seem to have plenty, with a discount for multiple sets to boot.
Did anyone pull the trigger?

There are some NOS 7402 hoods on eBay now. $134 plus $50 shipping from Germany. The reproductions are looking better and better.

Those hoods on eBay look really nice. Certainly look like they'd fit well (being a past and present owner of 7402 levers). The Shimano 600 gum/brown hoods like excellent as well. DA/600 AX will forever be the Never Served groupset--not like those hoods fit or looked good from the factory, IMO. :/

Gray Sante hoods. That's what I want.

That'd be nice. I'm building a 23" 1989 Schwinn Circuit out of a 23" 1989 Circuit frame, a 1988 24" Circuit fork (to be cut down and rethreaded), and the full Sante kit from a 22" 1989 Circuit (which doesn't fit). The hoods from the 22" Circuit are just starting to get sticky - I can keep that at bay for a while with talcum powder.

I think I got a pair of your 6207 non-aero hoods. Haven't had a chance to try them, though!

Careful there, I might send you my wish-list, which may or may not include oddities such as gum hoods for Campy Cobalto/Victory and C-record levers, with the full awareness that they were only available in black or white (boring!). This list, if ever disclosed, might also include gum hoods for Gran-Compe AGC-250, etc. :-)
