I think I agree with this. I've never had much of a warm-up habit and am generally able to go from zero to max without too much trouble. Unlike DoK the start is probably the best of my race when I do CX. I've also found it's pretty easy to overdo a warm-up and impact performance negatively. But I do find that a lack of warm-up can make the first half to full lap of a cross race uncomfortable sometimes. For road, though, it's seldom been an issue for me.
My resting heart rate, and even my sitting-here-in-my-office-at-school heart rate, are pretty low, and don't get up to speed without some prodding. I just took my pulse and got 52bpm, and I've had a cup of coffee made in an AeroPress and a 12oz Coca Cola already this morning. That was after a half mile walk from the parking garage to my office.
Thus, I require a lengthy and gradual warmup to get the ticker up to speed.

I think a low resting HR is typical for a trained athlete. My HR this morning was 44. Just now, immediately after sitting down at my desk, it was 54. I'm not sure low resting HR has any correlation with needing a lengthy warmup.

That's interesting. My resting HR is around 42. I can get it as low as 38 if I do a resting yoga pose. My max HR is like 190 though which is a big range so I wonder if it does take me longer to warm up. I typically just ride around before races, I don't have a trainer or rollers.

When I was in icu I kept setting off the low hr alarm. My wife needed a serious escalation to get them to change the alarm so u could get sleep.

I got an apple watch recently and sometimes have kept it on to see what kind of HR it captures while I sleep (10min incremental snapshots), lots of 50's and 60's sometimes in the 100's, looks like I bottom out at 46, seemingly when I'm in the process of waking up, if I look at the time correctly

Leg strength training last night. I increased the box height by 3 inches for the box jumps on my last set. I like the stackability of the new boxes. The added height provides an incremental goal to jump for more vertical height while maintaining my leg position on the landing versus just raising my knees closer to my chest to make the jump and if I miss...no big deal. Increased leg press weight and did more pistol squats.

Don't keep track track of resting heart rate, but when I crashed at the track and took an ambulance ride, they said it was 50 at the time (laying on the stretcher). Was 57 this morning after getting around and eating. Was 45 last I checked in bed after waking up.

Most road races that I've done don't start like a shot out of a cannon...but occasionally they have. The warm-up makes me ready, both physiologically (body warm, joints lubricated, energy production systems firing), and mentally (which might be the most important part).
Team Sky published their warm-up routine a year or three ago. It's short and simple, and is a good place to start. I'm sure it's google-able.

2x30's. No power (Quarq has gone back to Spearfish) but it's the same flat route and not much wind so speed and heartrate puts me in the ballpark.

My RHR is somewhere around 50. That's lying down and being relaxed, I don't tend to see it that low while sitting at my desk. It hasn't caused a problem for me in the hospital, but last time I was in a hospital I was less fit than I am now. I don't know how much RHR really has to do with how you respond to high-intensity exercise without a warm-up. Maybe it's how responsive your HR is? I don't know if this is unusual or not, but at the start of a cyclocross race my HR can go from around 104 to 175 in less than 20 seconds. 104 is pretty common as a HR at the start line if I'm reasonably relaxed. 175 is right on the edge of my Z3 and Z4 HR zones. It usually takes a little longer for me to get up to my LTHR in the mid 180s. Like I said, I don't know if that's all that unusual, just an observation.
Right, training status. 1.5 hours with 3x20 Z3 yesterday, middle interval standing at 60 RPM. I can't do a full 20 minutes standing yet, so I did alternating set of 5 minutes. Same workout this evening, hopefully I'll be able to stand for a little longer this time. This is the block where it starts to get a little tough. Everything up to now was kind of just prep for actual training. Getting real, now.

Speaking of HR responsiveness, I have a (minor) heart condition and about once a month will see my HR drop 140 bpm literally instantaneously (like from 240 to 100). It's hard to describe how amazingly good it feels to have your HR drop from tachycardia levels to normal.
Anyway, a ridiculous January day in the Northeast, 47F and sunny. Did a couple hours on cross bikes. It was more work than expected because all the trails are super soft given the rapid thaw.

Taking this approach as well & losing ~2lbs a week. Still a long ways to go.
