Saw a Peugeot for sale ad and wondered. I see a triple with drillum.
I tried blowing up photo but still can't read. Seller not replying.

Ignoring rusted parts, anybody recognize it??
@Bertinjim - any thoughts??

PKN10-level "Competition" model, a step down from the PX10 model and having Reynolds tubing only in it's three main tubes.

Great riding bikes imo.

I hope that seat post isn't stuck!!!

Those look like WalMart's best "garden hose" tires, so expect a less than lively ride.

Are you well over 6' tall?

The subject bicycle appears appears to be a circa 1983, Canadian market, PK13 Competition. If so, the frame uses double butted Reynold 531 but only in the main tubes. There does appear to be the remnants of a Reynolds decal on the down tube, just above the shift levers. The Stronglight 99 BIS triple crankset is OEM specification and everything appears to be correct. Unfortunately, it appears to have a bent fork. I don't have 1983 pricing but in 1982 (when it had a fully chrome fork) the price was $735 CDN.

I hate to be the one to say it, but it looks like the fork is bent.

If the price is right and it's your size, it's well worth having the fork straightened or otherwise repaired.

Note the very steep head angle that some of the Peugeots had back then. Never rode such Peugeots with such steep front geometries. I wonder if it translated to very "nervous" handling or clip overlap.

Thank you all. I saw the fork but couldn't read the tube. I thought it said Competition but wasn't sure. I thought that the cranks were very cool....
Seller wants north of $200 Canadian so might be a bit high.
PS. 6'1 so about close to what I ride

Yes, to what people said above but I think the fork is sharply raked, not bent. Besides, there's always Jody. This has very similar geometry to my PB 12 Course and which is an excellent ride. At $200 the parts alone are worth it never mind the 531 frame. Fork is a French built hi-tensile unit but chromed 531 forks were optional and appear occasionally on EBay. The equipment is good. The rear derailleur is an LJ 1000 and the front is an alloy SJA 103 triple to match the 99bis triple crankset. The black down tube levers are Simplex Retrofriction in Delrin. Hubs are good quality Maillards and the freewheel is, typically, an Atom 77 Compact 6 speed. It's definitely worth the long drive.

Seller has to look at it and see if fork is straight. Also has no idea if seatpost or stem are loose which might be ominous....

Quite a day.

Seller sent me close ups of the forks, too close to see if there was an overall issue. I'd asked about stem and seatpost (loose or seized?) Seller sent close ups of each and it dawned on me, he has no clue about bikes and simply didn't understand my questions.

By coincidence I was going to visit my parents (650km/400 miles return trip) and was passing within twenty minutes of the village where seller lives. I explained the driving I was facing.
Could I see him on my way north? No reply so I drove by.without turning off. Prior to the return trip we made contact. I gave him and eta and asked for a call or text if any issues. Drove to the meet. No calls, no text's. I sent a message saying I was there but couldn't wait as I still had 3 hrs to drive. Reply said he couldn't see me, could I come back tomorrow?

I didn't lose it on him but politely said "perhaps another time" and drove home.

Interesting.

I drove past again and this time found seller. At first I worried about the forks but no sign of injury to either frame or forks. Also seatpost jammed in but came out, Peugeot branded seat is well worn. Stem is too high as I loosened it to ensure not stuck. No one will ride it as is as it needs headset pulled and cleaned.

Maillard Pro hubs, Weinmann brakes and levers (rotten hoods) Simplex shifters, FD and RD and, of course the Stronglight triple.
Rear is well out of true but I believe it'll rebuild. Can't read name on rims but all in all, definitely not a winter beater.

It needs a full rebuild and a few parts soaked in Evaporust but all in all it's there and - surprise -it's not got a "Made in Canada" sticker

Stem sticker

I'll provide better photos later. Toronto traffic being what it was I got home in dark and would prefer to photo in daylight.

No room now anywhere in garage but I'll fit this somehow. bertinjim this is clearly your fault for sending a photo!!!

That's not a surprise (to me). Canada didn't manufacture any of the Peugeot models with Reynolds tubesets.

Ah, I was confused by the part about "Canadian market". Since they were making Peugeots i n Quebec I just expected that this would be a Quebec made bike. Trivia question. What was the top of the line Canadian made Peugeot? A U0-8?

When Velo Sport/Procycle started manufacturing Peugeot circa 1978, they also assumed design repsonsibilities for the Canadian market. As a result, the models often didn't quite line up with those offered elsewhere and often carried different designations, even if they weren't manufactured in Canada. I don't think that they ever manufactured an actual UO8. The top model that they manufactured is going to vary, depending on the era, as Peugeot were manufactured in Canada for over two decades. At the beginning it was probably the UO12, which was similar to the USA market UO10. After the demise of Peugeot USA, circa 1991, they took over distribution and manufacturing for the USA market and started building higher end models with Ishiwata, Tange and True Temper butted tubesets. I've seen late 1990s Peugeot Bizzaritz with True Temper OX II, Shimano 105SC and the Made in Canada label. There was a higher model with an Easton aluminum frame and 600 Ultegra components, though I'm not sure if these were built in Canada or subcontracted. The association with Peugeot was terminated circa 2000-2001.

WGB-

I'll take all the credit/blame. The 531 frames were all French which would include the Competition, Super Competition and PY 14 Professionnel from your bike's era. At that time, the highest end Canadian built bike was the 103 tubed PB 12 Course like mine which you have seen. A year or so later, the Course got a Reynolds 501 frameset with the same Tange fork as my bike. Procycle switched shortly thereafter to the line up T-Mar outlined. I've got catalogues of the period if you would like to see them.

Brake Hoods

WGB -

Brake hood replacement for the Weinmann/DIA Compe 144 levers are available on line or from Cycles Grand Bois in Japan: https://cyclesgrandbois.com/SHOP/dc_blh_144.html. I have found them to be the most reliable, fast shippers and fairly priced. The typically have stock of the amber, brown and black hoods.

I'll post some better photos very soon. Frame completely stripped and now working on wheels. Rear wheel regretfully is in need of a good truing, hopefully it doesn't need a new rim.

Pedals were trash but came off easily. Tires are 700 x 37mm, think mud tires on a sports car. There are some minor rust spots but I believe all will be well.

Hoods are falling apart and brake levers are rough. Seat polished up nicely. Seatpost is a 26.4mm Laprade Headset bearings are 5/32nd, thought that was only old UK....

Cranks took a standard 22mm tool FD is

Both hubs are smooth and FW makes that nice "click-click-click"
