Raleigh Racing USA Grand Prix
I picked this up recently and am trying to best-guess the age and what the original components/gearing were.
Raleigh Grand Prix
It currently has brake-shifters on it and is 2x8 gearing.
Rear derailleur s Shimano 105
Brake shifters and front derailleur are Sora
Wheels and hubs look decent but are not original to the bike.
The bike as it currently sits weighs about 21 pounds.
I haven’t had the rear wheel off yet and haven’t measured the spacing without the wheel, so I don’t know yet if this came with an 8-speed cassette or if it originally had a 6-speed freewheel.
Also, there is a single screw/bolt on the lower side of the downtube near the headtube. I’m not sure if it was for a parking flipper or for something else.
Any info will be appreciated. Not sure if this will be kept for awhile or sold complete or stripped of components for a future build and sell this frameset. Size is around 55cm.
And sorry for the photos, I will take better ones eventually.

These were made for several years starting in 1984 if my memory is correct. Various models made.

Pedal to the medal
That single screw bolt and the "Dura Ace Ex" sticker suggests to me that the bike originally came with an "aero" dt shifter. Nice bike! I always loved this livery.

Easily the best version of the Grand Prix ever made. Excellent tubing, and arguably, with the exception of the bottom bracket, quite nice components.

This style Grand Prix was made in 1984 and 85. Yellow USA graphics point to 1984. Bike originally came equipped with Suntour ARX derailleurs and a 6 speed freewheel. Ignore the Dura Ace sticker, it’s out of place.

Thank you all for the info and the link. I’m going to try and ride it around the block this week to see how it feels for fit.

Raleigh sponsored the U.S. cycling team. The Racing USA bikes were sold to coincide with the 1984 Olympics. The rear spacing was originally 126mm. The braze-on on the bottom side of the down tube is for a flick stand. Just a heads up, it probably has those messed up Shimano proprietary shifter mounts.

Hey, Sheboygan. I dated a hot blonde M.P. in the late 80's that was from Sheboygan......found memories.
