That's just it... I don't think I'd want to spend that much time trying to get to/from work. At the speed I ride, with a few rest breaks here & there, it'd likely take me 6 hours to go that far. 3 hours there and 3 hours back doesn't seem like fun, especially if it's every day. Then you have to take time to get cleaned up and changed when you get to work, and another shower when you get home. Especially during the summer when it's in the 90's with 90% humidity. Don't want to work all day smelling like old sweat.
And on days like today where it's cold and raining nonstop, not fun at all.
Now get me out on a weekend where I don't have to be somewhere at a certain time, and I'll gladly ride 63 miles.

I always wondered if I could have ridden my old commute.
40 mi each way with 2500 ft climbing each way.
Turns out it was totally doable. One day was enough, though.

I used to know a bloke who commuted over 50 km each way, every day - I think it was closer to 70 km. Needless to say, he was seriously fit, had been doing it for years and (this may not be relevant), used a recumbent. I think you'd need a well tuned, good quality bike to do it for the simple reason that you will need it to be reliable day after day for long distances.
You're biggest issue would be time, especially if you work an 8 hour day - you'd quickly find that all you're doing is riding, working and sleeping.

But for 60 miles I'd be using an electric assist bike.

No, it's not equivalent. It's not meant to be equivalent.
My advice is to build up to a 100 km ride ... which the OP has not done yet ... and then try a back-to-back 100 km and see how happy he is to get up the second day and ride another 100 km. If that's a bit of a struggle, then perhaps he might reconsider the 100 km/day commute idea. At least until he's fitter.
The longest ride the OP has done so far is 30 km. First he needs to actually ride a 100 km then two in a row before he can even begin to judge whether this is doable for him.

He really didn’t ask “Can I handle it?” but that’s a much more significant question.

Yup. I commuted 40 miles each way for a while, in 1983. About a week. I was exhausted by then. Then I found an apartment closer to my job.
