Bruce Gordon Chinook 650b Build

Stumbled across this Bruce Gordon frame in my size on CL for $50 and I had to snag it. I was told it was an early 80's frame that was one of a run of 101 frames which was apparently not something that Mr. Gordon used to do. The frame apparently has several thousand miles on it but other than a few cosmetic scratches, the paint is almost perfect. The fork is not the original but is of nice quality.

I just happened to have a set of 650b wheels lying around so I thought I'd whip up a gravel / trail bike which I have never had before! It rides so incredibly well

Parts:

FSA Carbon Crank
Ultegra 6700 Comps
CaneCreek Levers / Treko Calipers
Nitto Rando Handlebar / Felt Stem
Pacenti SL-23 / BHS hubs
Soma Xpress
Thompson Seat post
Brooks B17

I think this qualifies as one of the best deals I've seen on CL.

This is an outstanding bike. Ride it like you stole it cuz you did.

Awesome deal and beautiful setup.

If you have the room for 43mm tires some Rock N Roads would be perfect for this, and I am sure Bruce would be nice to you.

I'm sure I could fit a 43 in the front but the clearance in the back is on the tight side with the 38's that are on there now. Oh well, I'm used to riding on 25's so this is like having a Cadilac now

Agreed.

Great build.

My BMC Monstercross is sort of along the same lines, but you got a whale of a deal on the frameset.

Very cool! (I'm in the final stages of converting a Bruce Gordon "Hikari" to 650b).

Cheers,
Chris

Sure, it's an 89' Japanese frame designed by Bruce Gordon. Found it on eBay. I inquired about the frame, and Mr Gordon said he needed $100 for his time! Being that it was a production frame set, I didn't feel to badly changing things. I had the cantilever bosses moved for 650b, ground off the top tub cable guides, and added cable stops. I "dimpled" the chainstays so 42s would fit. The fork is from a Rawland Stag. Just finishing the wheels. I'll post pics when it's done.
Cheers
