Super post with good pics. My nephew and I rode the trail about 10 years ago, and it was a great, fulfilling challenge; we had clear weather and lots of fun. We met some interesting characters. We ate good food to our heart's content and still lost weight. Thanks for sharing.

Nice blog- well done. Your "giant dandelions"? That is Salsify. Some varieties have edible roots. (We asked a ranger about it on an Oregon Trail expedition a few years back)

Thanks for info on the dandelion and other responses. Really was a great ride. Only problem was sore rear. I've yet to find a saddle that helps. Mostly perennial area pain and sorta numbness.

Nice blog. My wife and I rode the Katy the week before you did ... (hotter 'n heck). It was interesting to see that we took photos at many of the same spots, and even stayed at one of the same places.

I gotta know ... in Peers, when you got off the trail and headed up to Concord Hill B&B ... did you ride up that first hill off the trail or did you end up walking the bikes part way? We made it a shade over 3/4 of the way up before having to walk.

I told my daughter a couple of weeks ago that my long-term goal (after more than 20 years off a bike) is to ride the Katy. Without hesitation, she said, "I'll do it with you."

I damn near cried. She's 15, and wants to spend several days riding a bike with her dad.
