Shimano 600ax brake hood help!
Ive been looking for the better part of a year for some brake hoods for my 600ax brakes levers with no luck. I have two options at this point, put "something, anything" on there and try to make it work, or just go hoodless. Can anyone here point me in the right direction? The few threads on here suggest the 105 aero, but the seem like they will not fit at all. IF any of you are running 600ax with wonky hoods, could you take a picture and post it here?

I bought my Polchlopek TT bike with these (what I think are DiaCompe) hoods stretched over the Dura-Ace AX levers.
Definitely a Class "C" fit, but work fine in use.

Best of luck on that search. From the looks of it, even the stock Shimano AX hoods didn't fit that well (or at least look any good), and that was factory! If you have other bikes or brake levers with which to compare side by side, it may be good to do so, so as to know which hood would be best. Presumably some cutting away or other modification may have to happen, but a lot of us are out of luck when it comes to other hoods, so we have to hack other things up.

I offered my NOS levers with hoods as well as my new-in-package ax hoods to someone in the same position a while ago who was thinking about reproducing them, but never heard anything more about it. If anyone here who has experience with that sort of thing wants to repro them they're still up for loan.

@Celloplus Suggestion: do a Google search on "bike forums Shimano Brake lever hoods". A wider search will give you a lot of hits that you will have to cull through but there's 3-4 different suggestions in this thread already.
You will get better results than with the forum search.

I just bought a bike with AX levers and bad hoods.
And, found a pair of NOS AX hoods on E-Bay which should be on the way here.
I am hoping to try to replicate them using a method similar to the one used with the Vittoria hoods here.
https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...ria-hoods.html
@iab made his hoods using a silicone mold and urethane hoods. However, I'm hoping to try a silicone mold and silicone hoods. Initially black (and baby blue), but other colors later.
I'd like to try using silicone because better moisture resistance than the urethane, I think.
I'm maybe a month or two out on getting rolling. If you have some patience, with some luck, I'll have some prototypes shortly.
There are two on E-Bay if you don't wish to wait, but not particularly cheap.

Thanks for all the responses. The eBay route is a little expensive and the dia comps are on the radar. The reproductions seem like a good idea and I would be up for a little experimenting in that regard.

Does anyone know if the Dura-Ace and 600 (AX) hoods are interchangeable?

I've heard they are the same, and the DA is the one I have coming.
The Adamas AX hoods have several differences from the 600/DA hoods.
There appears to be an aero Dura Ace (and maybe 600) that is similar but came slightly later with taller bump on the front, and no AX marking.

I cannot find the dura ace example that was mentioned above. Anyone have a picture or link they could share?

Hi folks, I'm a Shimano obsessive, I'm currently setting up for a small bespoke production run of AX hoods. I am having them professionally made using an NOS pair so they will be perfect reproductions.
if you'd be interested in seeing more and following the progress of the project do let me know.

Interested also!
I have an NOS 600 7 speed shifter set with the small plastic shim that allows you to run it as a 6 speed. I had that tiny shim with someone who 3D prints because so many people need one but the woman who had mine couldn't make a working copy. We have so many members who need rare and obsolete parts that any attempt to recreate those parts is a god sent opportunity. By all means run with it and I want to see you succeed.

Definitely sounds positive, and I need a couple of pairs for my D-A and 600 AX levers.
Hoping this venture goes well.
