Touring Underwear
I am about to head out for two weeks and was inspired by the bra thread in General so...What type of underwear do you fellows don after a day in the saddle?
#2
Every day a winding road
Why do you need something special for off bike? Where what you were any other day.

Bike shorts only , for riding, 3 pair, to have clean ones daily..
Patagonia silk weight, base layer, tops & bottoms.., its my PJs, worn in the sleeping bag..
walking around as a tourist without my bike , in regular clothes is that the question?

Athletic wicking boxer briefs for me, always.
Even on the bike, even though I know I'm the rare one that refuses to go commando with bike shorts.

After a good day on the bike, regardless of the temps, I recover in long undies to keep my muscles warm. I also sleep in thick tall socks to help my achilles and feet recover.

you have too much time on your hands buddy! Go for a bike ride! ;-)
I suspect that most of us just put on whatever is comfortable, ie not restricting, after wearing bike shorts all day and sitting on our bits for 4, 5, 6 hours.
have a good and safe trip. Enjoy.

I wish I could. The touring/commuting bike is at the Missoula REI so I have been hoofing it to work for a while.
Thanks. BTW...I am a briefs guy, but at the urging of the S.O. I did pick up some boxer briefs. She's not coming with me so they will stay home.

Middle of the summer, aka touring seasons, is usually warm enough that I'll wear lined shorts. They're really similar to swim trunks, but the label is different. Sometimes I forget which is which.

When I was a hiker, I just wore my briefs. I actually think Bob is onto something here with the silks though. On my Tour Divide trip, I'll be freeballin' while riding, but a second pair of shorts and some long underwear silks would be nice to have for comfort and extra warmth after the day is done.

Ex Officio brand briefs. They dry very fast after hand washing in the sink, comfortable to wear. I also wear them on the bike under bike shorts. Expensive, but occasionally are on sale.

I said commando, but that isn't exactly correct. I wear bike shorts for riding so no underwear then. Off bike I typically don running shorts that have a built in brief, so not exactly underwear.

I spend most days in water. I quit wearing underwear about 15 years ago.

hey, what about our ultra-light tourists?
the ones that cut off toofbrush handles
and sleep in hefty garbage bags?
they don't carry undies, yes still desire
apres-velo comfort.
you need to add a category for their vote.

Heh. I leave for a tour tomorrow. I am bringing a light, synthetic hoodie/shirt that I found on the side of the road last year. I had to wash it several times to get out the smell of cheesy body spray.

+1 I would wear Ex Officio boxer briefs exclusively except I haven't stocked up on enough sets to make it through the week, yet. When I'm riding day after day, they are what I take with me. I also have a pair of padded, bike underwear that I rotate in every third day or so, just to move the pressure points around, but the other 2/3s of the time it's Ex Officio boxer-briefs. But don't change into them when I get off the bike because I'm already wearing them, but I guess if I take a shower right after, I change into a different pair.
