New guy with a Mullet
Hey all, just joined up. I started riding my bike again a month ago and now ride daily and truly enjoy it! I must have got lucky because I started out with my Huffy Thunder Ridge mountain bike...........
I started looking for a better bike and came across this beautiful 1989 Panasonic DX4000 on Craigslist..................
Unfortunately I am not built or conditioned enough to ride a road bike yet. I could not get comfortable riding it and had 2 flats in a week. I was then browsing Craigslist again for a better mountain bike since I can safely handle these bikes. I was blown away when I found this 1989 Reflex ALX Carbon and scarfed it up right away..............
I love this bike!
I am a 43 year old who has been sporting a Mullet since 1984 and I also run a very popular Geo Metro Forum (my other hobby) so I either get great fuel mileage or use no fuel at all. That's my intro I guess. See ya around the board.

I had a Thunder Ridge I rode for 12 years. I rode it until I couldn't fix it. I wore out the crank and rear hub. It was great for a cheap Walmart bike. It was lighter than my hybrid bike (Diamondback Edgewood) I have now and seemed to have better gears for speed than my hybrid. I rode it on a 45 mile ride from Vally Forge to Philly and back once. I will be picking up my first road bike on Friday.

Welcome, and sweet bike! That stem is LONG, though.
FWIW, I'm shaped similarly to you and I learned to ride a road bike just fine. Felt strange at first (I used to commute on a MTB as well), but became just as comfortable as the mountain bike in a few weeks.

Welcome, I have a skullet! Like the Panasonic, and the mountain bikes. Keep at it and you'll be riding the road bike 50 miles at a shot!

Welcome, just from the photo , that road bike is way small, I could not sit on the seat and have a foot on the floor and smiling at the camera......

Welcome! That looks like it could be the original rubber on that panasonic.
New tires and tubes might be a good way to avoid more flats.
And I know it seems counter-intuitive but lose that gel seat cover and you will probably be more comfortable.

You are correct! The seat cover is not used anymore and once I got a decent saddle (the one on the Reflex) I have no comfort issues. I know the Panasonic is a great road bike. I will keep the bike and get better tires on it and get properly fitted to it eventually, but I enjoy mountain bikes more at the moment.
