suspended Tern S11
had to try one of the German A forks I got my hand on. I really like the adjustability of the fork and the disc brake. Obviously the Tern is not designed for a suspension fork and the geometry changes a little bit, but after a couple miles it felt quite ok. Caught myself looking for potholes to see the fork work its magic. Fun
\
the fact that the fork, the brake, the complete wheel is only 666 dlr is a real bargain ! cosnsidering that the fork alone usually sells upwards of 950 dlr alone.

Thor, that's pretty cool!
Have you tried testing the "dive" characteristics (if any) on that thing? In other words, if you slam on the brakes, does the bike compress the front suspension and nose dive at all? Also, how much weight does this setup add?

fork alone is 1458
wheel with supreme tire and reg tube and avid rotor and q/r is 1400
brake is 210
total 3068 grams
Tern alloy fork with V brake 800
proS wheel with supreme q/r etc 1100
total 1900
added weight is 1168 grams .....
But this is really almost missleading as we now have a very sturdy front disc brake wheel with 32 spokes versus the 14 on the Pro S wheel...
all in all I think the small added weight is doing very little, nothing compared to the plushness and the fun this bike is to ride now... I am contemplating and throwing a thudbuster on it .... to make it full suspended ... kinda .
lol

Btw Thor; this actually caught my eye for a bit seemingly because I like the idea of a 2 speed trail bike. I have a Thudbuster already which I swap between the Duo and Mu SL, but wouldn't mind having a front suspension with disc brakes on my Speed DUO! Will it work with my Speed Duo? How much of a steering change will I feel?
Thanks!

well I guess I have to switch it to 670 than ..... anything out of the ordinary ? :-)
Well, sure the fold doesnt line up anymore, the fold is a little more, and the ride is different than the regular fork...kinda funny to explain..maybe more twitchy at super slow speeds but more stable at speed...I know this doesnt make any sense, its just how I feel it. I have the Andros stem on that bike, so it might be cause of that also.
But the ride is pretty sweet, I just love the disc brake, and the total adjustability of the fork is pretty awesome too....its like smoooooth.....
actually one is looking for potholes ...lol

Very cool setup.
I don't have a 20" folder but do have a WTP Zodiac BMX that has a 1-1/8? steerer.
Hmmm, maybe a front suspended BMX would be fun since I really don't do many real BMX tricks with mine anyways and always wanted a front brake on it.
Thor can you tell me how long the effective length of the steerer tube is?
I am curious if I will have enough tube to fit my BMX.

Reminds me of aircraft landing gear , there was a SoCal MTB builder using that kind of suspension.

140 mm steerer tube with internal threads ....
yeah my old friend Horst Leitner built the AMP forks .. they were somewhat similar but had flex issues to say the least ... Horst also did disc brakes and frames and for some time made some good money with the horst link patent ( rear suspension frame )
he did a Mercedes folding bike .... and after some years in the bike industry he found out making cnc gas caps , truck bed extenders, steps and stuff.... he was making sooo much more money in thetruck biz that he walked away from the bikes ...:-)
