90s 105 groupset oem?

Did a lot of bikes in the 90s come with complete shimano groupsets?

I have a bike that has everything 105 down to the bearing carriers on the head tube, just curious

Seat post diameter?

I’ve heard that a seat post diameter can tell you how good of a quality your frame tubing is? Why’s that?

Stop making useless new threads.

It's simple, better quality Columbus frames usually have a 27.2 or 27.0 seatpost and nicer Japanese frames might be 26.8 and lower quality frames may have smaller diameter post. This isn't a hard and fast rule but it can help

Tell use more about the bike? what brand is it? What brand, if any, is stamped on the dropouts? Is it a road bike or a mountain bike?

I almost think everything but the headset is newer than the frame, especially those low spoke count wheels.

Is that CroMor tubing?

Welcome to the "It looks like a nice frame but I have no idea what it is" club. https://www.bikeforums.net/g/picture/32955412

cb400bill Is there a way these 4 or 5 threads? It might be better to have one place to post our thoughts and advice

OP: you might want to strongly consider moving the stem down about 5mm or so - or getting a longer stem to replace it. It currently looks to be installed a bit above the MIN INSERT line.

Thanks, and sorry for the lame attempt to get around the "10-posts-before-pictures" block.

Anyways, as you can see by the pictures, I picked up a pretty snazzy frame a few months ago. However, it is not all original anymore, as someone pointed out.

As mentioned, the bike came originally with a 105 groupset, but some of the parts started to show their age.
Parts I replaced:
- Rear derailleur (some of the bushings in the frame mount area were giving out. replaced with a 600 tricolore, for period-corectness.)
- Wheels (had Mavic MA40s with double butted spokes and 105 hubs, replaced with campangolo zonda c17s, found those for a good deal)
- pedals were replaced with MKSs, the ones it came with were pretty crud
- grip tape

Otherwise this is what I know about the bike from who I had bought it from and from my own research:
- could've originally came with a 600 groupset, but the guy didn't want to spend that much at the time.
- Colombus CROMOR tubing, which, correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't the top of the line tubing at the time, even though the guy said it's supposedly also double butted.
- Paint is, in my words, a transparent candy grape over a chrome finish (camera never does it justice).

The most obvious signs to be able to identify the bike, if anyone can, are:
A. Lugs
B. Seat post mount
C. Serial number

Otherwise let me know if there's anything else I could add.

The bike rides unreasonably well, so even if it was maybe a custom frame, as the file scratches (see headtube lugs) almost imply, I'd find it hard to believe it wasn't the work of a professional.

Thanks for your help!

P.S. Thank you to whoever mentioned the stem being too high, you have a good eye
