Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What should my next upgrade on my Madone?

I currently have a Madone 5.2 and thus far I've only upgraded the wheel set to Race X-lite Aeros... Everything else is standard spec 5.2..

You should upgrade the frame, groupset, and wheels.

Do you feel it needs an upgrade for some reason?

Personally, I'm trying to upgrade my engine.

I have the 2006 5.2... I bought it as a triple but decided to change to a double. In the process I upgraded the crankset from Ultegra to the new Dura Ace, and I loove it. But I do think the saddle is way more important to upgrade. I hated mine! So uncomfortable.

It looks fine. Get a second bike.
However, that paint job is insanely busy. Too many colors.

You could look into a new saddle if that one is not working too well. That and a second bottle cage if you plan on riding in high temps. Or a garmin edge for the heck of it.

Exactly! This is a question for you. But if you were selling the bike to me I'd be forced to throw a toupe saddle on it and when I get the chance I'd upgrade to fulcrums or ksyriums.

Out of curiosity, how did the 9-speed Ultegra crank come stock on that bike?

What was it supposed to have come with...?
The only thing which really bothers me is the saddle, which I find very uncomfortable.. That replacement was long overdue... I'd also like to get a carbon stem (debating between the Zipp and Bontrager).. An upgrade to a 10 speed is another upgrade I'd like to consider...

just my thoughts....the last place i'd want to go carbon is the stem. high performance aluminum is the way to go for that in my oppinion. its a safety concern for myself, though I believe i read that the Zipp stem has been tested and passed the german EFBE (or whatever it is) test.

and for what its worth, to me the bontrager and zipp stems always looked identical to the point where i suspect that bontrager may have a deal with zipp where they are simply re-branding the stems......maybe i'm crazy, i don't know.

New saddle. If there's one single thing to upgrade, it would definitely be that. Fizik Aliante or Specialized Toupe.

1. Flip it
2. new saddle (but the current one is nice and matching)
3. 10 speed drivetrain. It's what the cool kids are using.

To the OP, I would get another bottle cage.
