Shorts with REAL chamois!

I'm just now getting back into cycling after a long (about 8-9 years) hiatus (long story). Anyway, I remember my favorite shorts were ones with real chamois. And yes, you had to condition them with chamois creme after washing, but there was absolutely no comparison to comfort and fit.

I cannot remember the brand name, I got them at a clearance sale at some local bike shop. There was an Italian name written across the back (butt) in big white letters "Giovanni ........." something or another, I can't remember the rest.

Does anyone have a source for shorts with real chamois?

Thanks!

expense, high maintence, bacterial growth, not enough padding and various levels of quality of hides available are all reasons people don't use them anymore.
Saddle sores were more common with real chamois too.

Could the name have been Giordana?

I liked real chamois. Remember having to ride a few miles to get comfy but then they were great. Seems like Performance and Nashbar used to give you a choice between real or synthetic shamois.

My current favourite (these change with each new pair)
is Etxe-Ondo. The chamois while syntheic feels real, not like
the foam feeling of most others. It also doesn't slide around
much where it contacts the lycra or spandex or whatever
it is they make shorts out of nowadays.
I believe Bulltek sells Exte-Ondo, not many other
shops (online or brick) sell it.

Synthetic chamois are $200 nowadays. I can't imagine the price of shorts with real chamois.

The Chamois is a European Goat-Antilope .. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chamois

BITD Wool shorts had a Sheepskin* pad , so the whole animal was used , have a Kebab while you let them dry ,
it will take overnight..

*Same stuff is found in auto care departments, to clean your windshield.

can You Sew?

Yeah. And if you still have your old wool shorts, they'll sew a new real leather (or synthetic, if you prefer) chamois in for you. And replace the elastic, you you want. I had that done for a couple sets of my shorts.

Yea but,,,, now you have to explain why Brooks leather saddles are magically comfortable while saddles made of modern synthetic materials aren't...

I've not seen chamois in any local or online leather supplies shop but it may be out there somewhere.
The bacteria-growth reason would be enough for me to avoid using any kind of real leather tho--for this particular purpose.

Have you considered using Sham-Wow instead? Then you'd have self-cleaning shorts.

Okay, he didn't realize he had revived an old thread. Doesn't mean you can't give an answer.

I didn't know the answer. I did know he wouldn't get a response from the quoted poster so I commented on that.
