Favorite front rack?

I have a 1986 Bridgestone MB-3 I want to put a decent sized front rack on. I've been eyeing porteur racks mostly because they just seem cool, but a Wald basket on a smaller rack seems like it might be more practical. I'm not delivering stacks of newspapers, and if I ever ride this bike to the grocery store it will be a small shopping trip. Mostly it will carry lunch for two or three, maybe a few toys for the park, plus a lock and tool wrap. I've been considering the following:

- VO Porteur Rack
- VO Constructeur front rack with Wald basket (Leaves nice option of adding rear constructeur rack if I ever think this bike is worth that much bling)
- VO Passhunter with Wald basket

So, would those of you who have used porteur racks and/or front mounted baskets please offer up your opinions, thoughts, etc? Alternative suggestions are welcome too.

Thanks,
Eric

If you can find one of the old, original Jim Blackburn fronts that would be a pretty sweet score. Scour eBay; the Goupils turn up from time to time and mount to Mafac brakes, but are about 4 times the size of the TA units.

Thanks Capt Blight, an old Blackburn would do very nicely, good thought. Never heard of Goupil before but the rear racks look nice.

Maybe everyone else here just put a porteur rack on their bike for looks too ;-)

I like the solid basket idea. I had this one and it worked perfectly. Cheap too! $23 shipped.

I put a very large wire basket on top of a Jandd Extreem front rack with four tow straps. Ran it that way for about two years, not problems. It would carry alot of stuff. If you don't want the big thing, take the basket off in 5-minutes and you have a regular front rack.

I can't even remember where I got this Blackburn rack...

I just got these Showa matching racks that just might find their way onto my Motobecane Grand Jubilee...
