Cantilever brake pads, rough posts?

My cantilever brakes currently uses the smooth posts like the picture on the left, but I only saw break pads with rough posts like the ones on the right in my local store. Haven't seen them before, do they count as smooth posts and are they compatible with cantilever brakes I am using?

If the post diameter is correct and the other dimensions are compatible I see no reason not to use them.
