Mercier Mixte
Started 2024 off on a good note, finally sending boxes of bike parts and accessories to the local co-op and selling an old slightly too big Trek frame. But the shed looked a bit bare, and I accidentally browsed CL while selling the Trek, so anyway, this Mercier followed me home last weekend...

I got this Follis couple of years ago and finally had the time to work on it. I added brake bosses, bridges and braze-ons.
Original are:
Seatpost
Stem
Bottom Bracket
Headset
It was pretty crusty. I cleaned and repainted the areas that I torched with a few layers to kind of match what is left of the original paint. I built it up with as many French parts as I could. I have MAFAC cantilevers I'm refurbishing for this, but in the meantime it has debadged Shimano cantilevers. I wanted it to be a "Velo de Ville" Even though it is made of gas pipe it rides very light and feels good. Handling is pretty crisp.
Haven't finished all the details, but I'm riding it.

Thanks ! No- it was the original derailleur on my '74 Raleigh Gran Sport. It has the original long cage. I'd also love to replace it with something else low end like an Alvin or a Svelto. The Follis had a short cage that didn't work as well with a triple. I need to make springs for the MAFACs before I can mount them.

Yes it is the one that started it all and the geometry is indeed a racing one. But I am also having many other road bike projects to be completed. Plus my last crash this winter doesn't really put me at ease or in self confidence on open roads. Some people I know had terrible accidents on open roads because of car drivers negligence. I will do maybe one ride with the hybrid first and once I find the roads are absolutely safe, I will switch back to the roadie. I can't risk to have another crash.

On three of my mountain bikes I have the XM819 tubeless back in 2009-2013 their strongest tubeless vbrake rim, I have three pairs rims of XM819 as spare rims , I also have my two Treks sporting D521 rims linked to hope hubs. The D521 was one of their downhill strongest vbrake rim, another last mountain MTB project, a Gary Fisher Hookoo Ekoo will get the D521 with hope hubs.

Updated the captain's cockpit with upright bars to reflect the fact that casual rides to the local coffee shop and/or farm brewery are about all I can get my stoker to agree to...

Probably Le Champion? Could be Team Champion, not sure if the rear seatstays bridge is reinforced. Later on the lugs were cut out on TC, but not on LC, not sure when they started doing this. And also, not necessarily on the French / European models.
Is this a Huret standard derailleur hanger? If yes, you might have problems with Campy / Shimano standard derailleur, though there were homemade solutions posted on this forum previously. Or you could just go for mid-70's Huret Success Titane with the correct mounting hardware.
Very nice frame, it will look great after some cleanup and polishing. The paint seems to be mostly intact, just gunked up a bit.

That is beautiful and frankly I tour with a fairly similar cockpit. My partner rides but won't do a tandem at all. So there's that.
