WTB: Complete Shimano 600 or Shimano 105 groupset
I have a vintage Conti bike that I'll be using as my daily city commuter and I'm trying to keep it as "low-profile" as possible. I'm therefore changing the groupset for something less "special". I would prefer not to compromise performance, so I was thinking maybe a late Shimano 600 or early Shimano 105 groupset would be a good choice. Nothing fancy, of course.
I would consider a Gipiemme or Campagnolo groupset, as long as it stays within a reasonable budget.
I'm open to any offers you may have that fall in the "low-profile" category.
Square taper preferred.
Thanks!!!

PS: I don't mind parts in bad aesthetic shape, as long as they function properly and still have life left in them.

I have some decent stuff, but the shipping would be crazy.

Are you talking tri-color 600? I’ve got what you need if so.

PM'd you guys, thanks!
In case anyone is wondering, I would need the whole group, except for maybe the headset. That means drivetrain, brakes, levers, indexed DT shifters, hubs (wheelset preferred), chain, bottom bracket if possible (italian thread). Am I forgetting something?
Sad thing is, I sold a 600 tricolor group last year thinking I wouldn't need it. Instant regret. It was in pristine shape.

I have a complete 1050 group that you can have for the cost of shipping. Came off a cracked Miyata 712. I’m traveling for work this weekend and will get pics tomorrow night.

Here are the pics as promised.
Most of the group excluding the hubs/wheelset was cleaned up before I discovered the crack in the frame.
What’s missing: complete bottom bracket (takes 113mm) and brake pads.
RD-1050
FD-1050. 28.6mm, clamp bolt is a hardware store stainless Allen screw
SL-1050 for braze on bosses
BR-1050
BL-1050 with 1055 hoods
FC-1050, chainrings are not original but are Shimano 53/39, 175mm arms
Shimano MF-Z012, 13-30, not catalog spec but Japan made
Hubs have not been opened. Rear rim is replacement Sun Chinook
Front rim is original Wolber Alpine

Sorry to hear about that cracked frame. Better safe than sorry, as one may say. I'm very lucky and grateful to inherit these parts.
Do you guys think that this HG50 chain will do? https://www.ebay.ca/itm/154565582014
I'm also looking into a possible freewheel change for when the time comes. Do you think that a CS-HG20 (12-28T) will work? Or does one need a long cage RD for that? https://www.ebay.ca/itm/393356867167
I know this is mountain bike stuff, but the vintage ones I found are either in pretty bad shape or very expensive.
Looking forward to finding the missing pieces and install the whole thing on my bike.
Thanks!!!

That chain should work, but that wheelset probably has a threaded rear hub for a freewheel, not a freehub. These are good: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/294988240793

Oh, I linked to a 7 speed, you might want a 6 speed if you want indexing. Sunrace has them, too.

Shimano 600 free wheels are actually pretty reasonable, unless you want a wide range freewheel. However I have found the Shimano 600 free wheels to be better than even the DA ones. They are bomb proof.

Another question for you guys: if I ever feel like upgrading to 7-speed, do I only need to install a 7sp freewheel and 7sp indexed shifters? Or will I also need to change other parts? Not thinking about doing that right away, just wondering if it will be possible in the long run!

Might need to add a washer/spacer to push out the stay on the DS to avoid chain rub.
May have said this previously/elsewhere, those particular 105 brakes are the best non dual pivot brakes with the SLR levers...

You should not need to change anything but the shifters and freewheel. The 105 (1050-RD) rear derailleur (and I assume the 600 cousin) supposedly can index 8 speed (I think 9 is when cable pull changed). Our own @verktyg made a comment in velobase about this https://velobase.com/ViewComponent.a...078dd&Enum=108

Those single pivot brakes also look gorgeous.
I'm more of a dual pivot guy when I have the choice, but I like the idea of group coherence and aesthetic.
