Merckx Corsa Extra

Trying to ballpark this one available locally.

I'm not interested in the group per se, but the frame. I see some surface rust on the chain stays, which I will check out. Overall the paint looks good.

What's it worth?

TIA

Merckx framesets with good paint tend to command $600 and up. Given the condition of the chrome stays on this one, my guess is $800-ish for the bike.

With the chainstay corrosion and what looks like road rash on the brifters (I know you say you're not in it for the parts, but if damaged they won't have good resale value to offset part of the purchase price) I'd not go over $500 for this one -- and that only after a long, hard look at the frame in person. If that corrosion is more than barely surface the frame will never look very good -- but hopefully will still be a fine rider.

I'll second this guess. Hawaii, if that's where you are presently, could mean a totally different value than mainland US, though.

Thanks for the replies!

Yes, the market here is a little funky, and Merckx are actually very rare. I don't think there was an importer of them, so each were brought over individually.

The chain stay corrosion is a little bit of a bummer, but otherwise the bike is in good shape. The owner and I talked story for a while and I made an offer below asking that worked out.

Not sure if I'll equip with Campy/Cinelli bits or DA, but it rides great. The deep purple paint is stunning.

I agree with the $500 ish with the corroded chainstay. Frame and fork for a good condition Corsa Extra in team colors stateside these days I’d say around $500. I have a Century which had corroded NDS chainstay that I sanded, primed and rattle can sprayed with good effect but it’s gloss black.

Right? That's the only thing I *know* I will be changing. Build thread/post in the main C&V coming soon.

Think about how you will deal with the rust on the chrome. Brings down the value considerably, imo.
