If you're adding Umunhum You can make it a double with Loma Prieta (which is a higher peak) then cross over to Umunhum from the backside. Making it 5 peaks. I'm not going to say this is a legal ride, I would never admit to having done it, but I can confirm it's a great ride, but that you need to be prepared for some bad roads.

That's a lot of walking in three days.

Been a while since I've done Hamilton too, and my birthday is the 28th, I might be up for a challenge.

Hey, folks. If you are leaving for the Hamilton ride from the Sacramento area, I just found out that southbound I-680 will be closed near Pleasanton the weekend of the ride. Northbound I-680 will NOT be closed. Caltrans is recommending taking 80 to 880. It adds about 10 minutes to the ride, so you might want to figure that into your plans. It's always something.

Well, for various reasons I am not in England as I expected to be, so I plan to be riding with you folks tomorrow. I'll be on a white and red Ron Cooper.

This was a fantastic, well attended (I counted 31 bikes in one photo and there were more than that) ride. The weather was perfect, the scenery spectacular and company marvelous. The downhill was incredible. More pix:

Will the green hills last til Memorial Day? (that was always my annual question when i lived in San Jose, Campbell and Los Gatos, before moving to Santa Cruz)

Reminisce -
I rode Hamilton twice when I lived in Campbell. My roommate at the time - after seeing how bedraggled I was after the first ride - suggested (on the 2nd departure) I take a sleeping bag and make it a 2 day event, then nearly rolled on the floor laughing. The lady was a 1st class motivator, without knowing it. Or getting credit for my quicker finish. Thank goodness for touring triples, even when I was younger.

A great day indeed. Lots of wonderful vintage bikes and vintage people. A beautiful day for my first ascent of Mt. Hamilton.
@JoeBass, sorry I didn’t get a chance to introduce myself. I was the guy on the blue, Mavic-equipped, mystery bike with multi-colored Benotto tape.

Lots of cool bikes, but perhaps none cooler than Chuck’s Teledyne. The belle of the ball.

His own drill work. 14 lbs. claimed weight

Note the unconventional strap routing. May have to try that.

And the ascent begins…

A line of cyclists on the lower slopes

Hey, what’s that?

A spectacular view!

Up and up…

Finally, after about nine miles, the Lick Observatory comes into view.

A few shots at the summit, including more bike photos.

Lick Observatory & Mt Hamilton summit.

Don’t worry, my bars remained intact. I’m not sure what happened with the photo distortion. Guessing it was lots of sweat on the photo lens.

Buttercream. That’s how my iPhone auto-corrected “Bottecchia” so I’ll go with that.

‘74 Colnago (at least I think that’s the year I heard) with original paint in amazing condition.

Every gram counts.

Competing views

Drillium, drillium everywhere.

A view inside the Lick Observatory

I did see you and your bike with the cool bar wrap! So many riders out there today it was hard to talk with everyone. Next time! Great photos!
