Quick 20 mile lunch ride yesterday, 35 degrees/cloudy/windy ... felt much colder. Today was 54 degrees and got in 24 miles, very nice ride with the last 6 miles in the dark. This could be a low mileage week.

Next time it's that cold I'll try an old neoprene face mask I have that covers up to just below the eyes.

Do you use vaseline?

I actually use Bag Balm...the same stuff I use for the chamois. I even do this when using a Balaclava. I have seen those neoprene masks and have thought about getting one since they have the hole for the nostrils and, the ones I've seen, some small holes at the mouth. My glasses at times will steam up with the balaclava over my nose unless I'm riding at a decent speed.

And here I complain when I have to ride with a jacket and full fingered gloves on.

The windchill here is -15F. I don't think a little Vaseline is going to do it. I usually train indoors until the temperature gets above 10 degrees or so. And I don't enjoy riding on slick pack or ice. But thanks for all the posts. Reading about everyone else's rides keeps my cabin fever under control.

Not sure if I'd go outside at 10º except in the sun. Many of my rides start around 0430 and in the dark. The sun makes low temps far more tolerable.

Got in a nice 15 mile ride in between my wife's two doctor's appointments. Not enough time for my regular thirty mile rides. Temps are in the 70's but it was a little windy on today's ride.

i wouldn't go outside in 10 degree temps even if I had a heat lamp over my head the entire time. Too cold for this Florida boy.

Some gusting winds and not as warm as yesterday, about 60f when I started. Did 8.3 miles on my usual loop near the house. Still meeting my goal of 8 miles when I ride. Funny since my goal started a 5 miles a day three days a week and I'm a fraction over 160 miles this first month of riding.....with seven days yet to go.

Only did 14 miles in 29/30ºF temps but with a nasty 14mph wind and 25mph gusts. Hands, or rather forefinger and thumb, were getting too chilled and face was stinging even with the balaclava. Will do some time on the trainer this eve.

I rode 25 miles today with temps only at 20 and gusty winds of 20mph. I must be nuts.

21 miles of errands, LBS, store, etc. Cloudy but warmish, pulling the "utility trailer" as some items bigger than my panniners!

Unless I can get a ride in late this afternoon, I'm actually skipping today's ride to spend more time with my wife as it's her last day here. They found more cancer in her dad, so she is going back to Illinois until his treatments are done. She and her sister are trying to talk him into moving down here but he is very resistant to the idea.

-8 degF this morning. First day back from working out of town. My work was outside for the last 4 days and my laptop and gloved fingers were hardly working in below zero windchills. I decided to drive in to the office this morning and skip my commute because I'm tired of the cold. Will try to resume my normal commute in the near future. Really missing riding lately. Have to be out of town again next week. uhh hate that.

There's a winter storm watch for my area and my wife didn't like the idea of my going out today. I did 90 minutes on the new trainer(Kurt Kinetic Road Machine with Pro Flywheel). It's said that the time on a trainer is worth 1.5 times the time on the road--still would rather be on the road, but the trainer is better than not riding.

I always like seeing someone who has their priorities straight. We will be praying for your family in this trying situation.

Thank you all for the thoughts. My wife felt bad about me not getting my ride in so she told me to take her to the airport a bit early so i can get a ride in. Traffic was pretty light in both directions, so I got back in time to get a short 15 mile ride in.

This is for all those lucky riders living north of FL. Today was atypical weather for a lot of places.... north central FL as well. Only on a pleasant side... warm and in low 70's about 5 to 10 degrees above normal. That is to continue for the next 10 days or so. Anyway we got in 32 miles on our local mup and stopped for lunch at a local park overlooking the water.

A few four legged friends along the trail.

Just got back from a 31 mile ride after a visit from one of my wife's oldest friends who came down from NY to escape the cold for a few days. Beautiful mid 70's here in S Florida compared to the 12 degrees and single digit temps back at my home in NY. Retirement right now is a wonderful thing.

Snowed yesterday and last night. 20ºF outside right now with icy roads--I did 90 minutes on the trainer.

Yes. 9 miles around Key West. Along with a gazillion other bikers - mostly tourist. Only one or two serious road bikes (they are a microscopic minority due to the corrosive "bike acid" salt air.) About 75 and sunny, but a very stiff wind coming off the ocean made it a tad more challenging than this flat island usually offers.

Great way to work on your tan if laying on the beach isn't quite your cup 'o tea.

Finally got out to ride for a couple hours today. 8degF and 10-15mph winds made it cold but I was comfortable.

PS. DowneasTTr: your making me envious. Can't wait for spring. The weather has been horrible as of late.

Excellent morning for a great 26 mile ride along the beaches and canals of Tampa Bay. Great sunny weather with 70's temps made it a short sleeve jersey and shorts ride. Wind was fairly calm so it made for a more enjoyable ride.

Slowly upping my work load each week. I only get on the bike 2 or 3 times a week right now, and add a good hike on another day. Each ride though has increased the Kj slightly, so over time distance and hours will increase too. Target ride, Tour de Cashiers, May 4. Come join me!
