Widest tire for 2016 Trek 520 disc
Hello all. I was going to post this on winter cycling, but since it's a touring bike, figured I would have more success here. I will be riding more this winter on my trek 520 and the stock tires are way too thin. Can someone suggest wider tires? Also, what are the widest I can go? We had some snow in NJ the past few weeks, and I couldn't even ride 1 block without falling from slippage.

If you were slipping on ice, studded tires may be an option for you.
Size would likely depend on whether or not you have fenders.
Studded tires are very slow, so I would not recommend them if you did not encounter ice.

The 2015 model can fit narrow to size 42mm tires with mudguards but it's really pushing it. Really the 2015 model is comfortable with 37mm

NJ guy or gal, I assume they use salt on the roads there like we do?
if so, as you have a nice bike, washing it after every ride is really important or you're going to have all kinds of rusty poop going on. I ride almost every day, and am lucky to have a garage so give my bike a quick wash, and wipe and spray the chain.
Especially on a disc bike, if you don't, the calipers will have rust issues over time, and all the usual stuff like spokes, and well basically every other steel parts will get rusty over time.
have fun developing a sense of traction. Flat pedals are handy for bail offs when the front goes faster than you can say, oops the fronts going...
