Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

edit: Yeah, that's what I figured. There are alot of nice "neo-retro" builds out there w/ original paint and new, modern bits. But the white on yours really stands out, yet flows at the same time.

Stop frikkin' hoarding them already (especially if they're a size 57cm)! I'll probably see you in some eBay bidding war on one of those frames at some point.

Sure. If I'm passing by, I can just get some from Minnie.

It's definitely some kind of illness. I've got 4 mid-late 80s schwinns sitting in my apartment right now, one with 9spd Ultegra and one with SRAM Rival.

My buddy caught the bug from me and has an '85 Peloton and Madison track.

My post was taken the wrong way, i wasn't implying that it was gonna explode, it was in a more "ride it like it's stolen" sense

I got it too, was just stating that these steel Schwinns are indestructible in a jocular and light-hearted manner.
No exaggeration! I crashed badly enough to bend wheels, snap derailleurs, bend bars, even busted a Giro helmet once hard enough that a shower of styrofoam balls spilled from the lycra cover, and lost many square feet of legskin, but that frame always checked out dead-true afterward. Gives new meaning to the term "diamond frame".

Oh, the irony. I won't be able to enjoy my newly-rehabed Schwinn, because I'm away.

That's what you get for taking so long to finish it.

Yeah, it doesn't bother me. I've actually always end up visiting here in the summer.

When I saw that paint can, first thought was "are you serious? this is going to be a train wreck!" Then I was really surprised, and impressed with the results. Good looking rig there! I know when I was younger, we would buy these crappy cars for under $100 and race them at a track in an even called "Spectacular Spectators". We would use house paint & rollers to paint the cars. My brother pulled out an orbital sander, wetted it down, and went to town. We were impressed with the results and had the nicest looking paint job in seriously 30 minutes than any other car out there

Thanks. The headtube badge is the same one that was on the bike when I bought it new in 1988.

I may have to buy some sort of bike while I'm here in exile. Saw a roadie out this morning. It was only 100 degrees at 9am. I think I can handle that.
