Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I hate this beard movement that has become popular the last 10 years or so. If you ever see me with one you’ll know somehow I just broke.

Well, that was quick - done and done. I bought a Philips/Norelco OneBlade a year or two ago for that first leg shaving of the year, but I've never really used it on my face until now. It got down to the skin impressively quickly, and without clogging up or bogging down too much.

Oh, and as yesterday was the last day that I could use my monthly 20% coupon at the LBS, I picked up one of the studded tires that I'll need to ride outside this winter without (too much) fear of bustin' my ass on the ice. I'm more excited about the prospect than I thought I'd be.

I can’t grow a beard to save my life. And my mustache game is just as weak.

My wife insists I wear a full beard. Something about a receeding chin.

I was in that boat until deep into my thirties. In the seventies, mutton chops was as far as I could go.

I used to have a full beard, from the age of 24 to about 55 or so. I got rid of it when it had all turned white, to end the "Santa Claus" problem. Nowadays I shave about every 3rd day. Not because I don't get visible stubble, but because I've noticed I get an incredibly smooth shave on a 3 day growth of beard that I never get after one day or two.

It was warm enough to brave outside this morning (helped by the extra hour of daylight), combined with actually warming up my core before going out. Interestingly, but not surprisingly I suppose, with my core warmed I was so much better at bike handling that I was nailing the tightest chicane on the Veloway every lap, when every trip previously it's caught me out and made me brake. It also meant that my hot lap was a PR, despite doing it at the end of the session with wind picking up and the Bar Mitts on.

I suppose this means I should do that every day, but man it's boring.

I hate that beards are trendy now. I've had one since 1988, but now suddenly it's fashionable.
