From the NFL to the Pro Peloton?

NFL's Kellen Winslow Jr. -- I Want to Go Pro ... In Cycling!!! | TMZ.com

So who thinks they're going to see this guy in the pro peloton any time soon?

Be interesting to see how far he gets. Playing 11 minutes of field time colliding with people is very different to riding 150 miles in an aero tuck.

Well, he's already proven he doesn't know how to ride a motorcycle.

bulked up muscular guys, may be better suited to track Matched Sprints.. velodrome races..

sir Chris Hoy is a specialist.. wouldn't be so good on the road races.. but won gold medals in track events.

a couple cat 1/hc climbs may change his mind real quick. agree with the above post. may be better suited for the track after dropping a little upper body weight.

He's currently racing people with day jobs. Cat 4/5 level. Lets wait to see what happens when he gets to a level where people race as a day job. I'm willing to bet he doesn't have to answer the call to a 40+ hour work week, compared to those he is currently racing. I don't think he knows what's coming for him. And I agree, might be better suited for track.

He's already dropped from 240 to 215. Who's to say how light he can go? He's the same height, 3 years younger, and 30lbs heavier than Tom Boonen, so he has time to drop another couple stone and he might be able to mix it in some bunch sprints.

But yeah, if he's off the back of lower cat races, making a living on a bike might be a bit beyond him.

I'm sure he is an amazing athlete but it's obvious he doesn't really understand cycling. He has a lot to learn. Let's see how and what he does.

He can still drop some weight. And while I agree he won't make it as a GC rider, he can be a good classic racer.

LOL why so many comments attacking this guy? OH YEAH, YOU WAIT AND SEE BUDDY WHEN YOU HAVE A BIG CLIMB, YOU WON'T HANG!

Where did he say "I'm gonna come in here and go pro and dominate everybody!!" or anything else like that?

I think it's great that an American pro athlete wants to turn to cycling. There is such a stigma attached to bike racing and cyclists in America, it's ridiculous. Cyclists are like the #1 hated group by almost everybody (exaggerating, I know...). I hope he does keep losing weight (215 is still enormous for road racing), and can get up to Cat 1/2. Dunno about pro, but go get it dude!

He said the following in the article in the OP;

He's got one very big problem with going pro, and it has nothing to do with weight or experience - it's his full body TATTOOS!

Cmon, the pros in the peloton will get one look at that mess and eat him up and spit him out the back! Tattoos are not tolerated in the pro peloton. Refreshing IMHO. The sport of cycling is "clean", at least as far as tattoos go!

I can't stand tatoos but I've seen them in the peloton. Not full body but tatoos none the lest.

Wiggins is covered in tattoos. It's a new age, tattoos are commonplace.

Dekker has tattoos.

Gaimon has tattoos...in fact, I think his "clean" tattoo is pretty badass.

Ha! You call those tattoos?

They have a lot to learn from some of the fine criminal specimens playing in American sports!

I don't recall to many riders in the peloton that match these guys!

The fact is, tattoos exist in the peloton and are tolerated. Just because they don't rival most pro NFL players doesn't mean they won't one day. As social norms change, so will the peloton.

We have some local cat 1 & 2 guys that are covered, easily rivaling the photos you posted.
