Ritchey Road Tandem:Final Configuration
After riding this bike w/ my 10 year old son as the stoker, it was clear to me that some changes were in order. The original Campy NR brakes were pretty weak(even with new pads) and both controlled by one lever. The second lever controlled a drum/drag brake. It was clear that my son and I would more than likely, not be using this bike on long descents,so I swapped the wheels to some 700c, 36 hole CR18/Campy low flange wheels that I had. Next I installed some nutted Tektro 538 brakes w/ Yokozuna pads. I got a set of crank shorteners from ebay to help my son w/ the fit,
With the wheel change came some new tires and 28mm Paselas were the largest that could fit on this bike. I installed 46cm noodle bars and thumb shifters on the top of the bar. It was clear after some riding that this is where I will have my hands most of the time, so it seemed the most logical choice. Swappws the Campy Rally for a first generation Cyclone (front & rear).The saddle bag was sagging through the bagman support so I cut a piece of plastic from and old cat litter bucket to act as an additional support. Enjoy!

I like the way it turned out... So WRT the shifters, are they Paul thumbies? Also, is this the first time you've used interrupter brakes? I look at them occasionally, but have yet to take the plunge on them. It looks like you're ready to do some fun rides with your son.

PG, the shifters and mounts are from VO. I had an old set of Paul thumbies at one point but they were not hinged. These are so if they need to be changed for any reason, I don't have to destroy the bar tape. I really like the interrupter levers for this type of ride. They work really well and are a nice option to have when you need it.

Very nice. I can't help wondering about the stoker's bars, though. I think angling them up like that would make my wrists hurt. But as always ymmv, and you have the advantage of seeing the rider on the bike.

The way C&V tandems have been emerging lately, it would seem we need to plan a special ride for us all. My guess is we would need at least a year to do so. After all we would need to coordinate "teams" in order to make this work.
Fender, it is a beauty and your upgrades all make sense to me. How do the pedal adapters mount? Do they just thread into the normal pedal mount or are there other attachment points?

Nicely done , I wouldn't trade my old tandem for any new tandem.
But I don't like any new bikes unless there retro . Even then most fall short
