Did anyone here snag this? Went cheap.
Yes, if the price stays low it's a good buy I think, but it'll take some work to get it looking good again. I lucked out, mine was in almost mint condition - it was the original owner's spare bike and rarely got ridden. Took me awhile to get over my fear of tubulars but now it's one of my favorite rides.

Very Rare Miele Possible Colnago Build - $550 (Metrowest)
© craigslist - Map data © OpenStreetMap
(google map)
When people refer to a "barn find" the first thing that comes to mind is something like a 1963 Corvette split-window coupe, but in the world of steel bikes, today's offering may very well be the "barn find" of the year........for your perusal, a mid 1980s build from a Canadian bike builder with Italian connections (owner was Italian), high end models from this company are very well regarded and sought after by both collectors and riders, this one is a 14 speed with Shimano Dura-Ace and Suntour Superbe Pro mix, built on a 21.5 (54 cm) Columbus DB Tubing (period-correct decal), typical Meile 2-toned paint job, this one is iridescent white and blue with Miele Cicle decals on the seat and down tubes, previous owner used the bike as a billboard for other decals, and these should be removed by the new owner to restore original appearance, otherwise the original paint is largely intact, and should be cleaned and preserved with a quality clear coat for premium vintage look..............the "barn find" designation refers to the frame provenance, reportedly there were a few Mieles that had Colnago frames, and this could very well be one of them, the steel fork is fully chromed, has a sloping crown, "M"s carved into the crown, and forged drop outs (front and rear) marked "Miele". Bottom bracket also has cut outs typical of a Colnago build. Seat stays painted with Miele engraved into each at the seat tube, bottom stay is painted, chain stay is chromed.
Additional specifications as follows"
RD: Dura-Ace
FD: Suntoure Superbe on a braze-on frame bracket
Levers: Dura-Ace on braze-ons
Crank: Suntour Cyclone (likely a replacement of an earlier Dura-Ace, sad)
Pedals, SPD, Richie (crap)
Brakes and Levers: Suntour Superbe Pro (Painted WHITE!!!!!)
Wheelsets: Dura-Ace low-flange hubs, Matrix ISO C-11 700 aero rims, stainless spokes (32), Michelin (France) Axial Sport Tyres
Bar: 3TTT 42CM Competizione Racing Team Service Merckx bend, blue and white foam tape (the 80's!!!!)
Stem: 3TTT Pinarello Pantographed Quill, looks like 100mm (4 inches center to center)
Seat and Post, Vetta (white ventilated, the 80's!!!) and unmarked forged post, crappy bolt, my guess, swap out or theft replacement
Bike rides out fine now, by really needs a total tune-up, including BB re-packing and/or replacement. Pads are good, index shifting works but needs adjustment (slight chain chattering on the free wheel now), if I was going to keep, the cranks and rings would get replaced with proper period-correct Dura-Ace. As far as configuration , this is a quick, very smooth and comfortable frame geometry, not too tight like a criterium, just right for fast, responsive rides, I am 5'10" and the cockpit is a tight fit for me, my guess, would be perfect for the 5'5" to 5'8" rider. Certainly open to reasonable offers, but please, nothing ridiculous.

Not the cheapest bike up here, but I think this one deserves mention.
1983 Colnago Super w/50th Anniversary Super Record - $2500 (Oakridge)
Used, but the overall wear on the groupset appears to be relatively low based on the photos.

Me thinks he should have done more research before cashing in a $50 yard sale bike. DA hubs on Matrix rims makes me think the Suntour may be OEM and the DA shifters and wheels a later replacement.

I think this guy is building this bike up a lot. Did Miele really have Colnago built frames? I could see Italian contract bikes (although wouldn't Marinoni be more likely?) but Colnago for a basic SL, if it is, with no frills save a chrome fork?

1986 Cannondale ST500 for just $215 with low flange Campagnolo hubs and Weinmann concave rims! 25" frame size. Sugino AT triple crankset and some other stuff, but seriously, the frame and wheels are worth more than asking price, IMO. Beautiful navy blue metallic (I have a same-year SR frameset). This used to be $245 (also a great price) and is now less. Don't make me rescue this, as well! I am flush with Cannondale ST affection. Perhaps, as soon as I can sell the bike I have for sale, I will take this in................

Overpriced item and inflated sales rhetoric, but a nice bike. Not the Brooks the bike would originally have had, and not all Campy is created equal. And I believe you can make out Weinmann concave clincher rims on the bike. Whatever. I was going to post this in the "Wacky" thread but thought someone might really want it. You could ride it to victory in the '77 TdF just as the seller did.

1978 Raleigh Competition GS full Campagnolo - $625 (Midlothian)
make / manufacturer: Raleigh
model name / number: Competition GS
Very clean, all original Raleigh Competition GS road bike. As ridden to victory in the 1977 Tour De France. Full Campagnolo kit from seat post to pedals! Original and nice Brooks leather saddle. Paint is in very good condition. Tires are dry rotted and take glue-ups. These are selling in the 1,000 range on eBay, so price is pretty firm.

Agreed @Bianchigirll, that RD does look out of place on this one to me - different strokes.... Same seller also has a J.P. Weigle - not as keen on it's color scheme (I'm a sucker for red) but also a nice bike.

It is mine and I agree, a case of Function over form. This bike is a tad too small or I would never ever sell. The original owner went with the Chris King hub and Shimano derailleur and it works flawlessly. If I were to keep, I would go Grand Bois hub with a more classic derailleur.
So it goes.

It is mine and I agree, a case of Function over form. This bike is a tad too small or I would never ever sell. The original owner went with the Chris King hub and Shimano derailleur and it works flawlessly. If I were to keep, I would go Grand Bois hub with a more classic derailleur.
