Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Would a helmet like that be street safe?
And if so, what kind is it?

^^^It's a babelfish automatic translation from Dutch(?). That's why it's so messed up.

Did Coppi do a standing hour record? If Coppi's record was seated, it's been broken a couple of times already, hasn't it?
Me no understands

what's funny is to look up the definition of "BALK".

1. To stop short and refuse to go on: The horse balked at the jump.
2. To refuse obstinately or abruptly: She balked at the very idea of compromise.

Sports. To make an incomplete or misleading motion.

i saw this on the fgg forum and asked how minimal a frame you could make without the need for a seattube. people posted mountainbike trial bikes (i think) with no seat. how light do you think you could get a custom frame for something like this?

He couldn't use a trials bike if he wants it to be UCI legal. I don't think UCI says anything about not having a saddle, probably because nobody thought of it.

I was thinking that it would be nearly impossible to do since you have to be standing on the peddles the entire time and really putting a ton of weight on the bars in order to get up a good spin, but with that gear it could work out since he won't have to spin so much. He's clearly a beefy guy, so that's probably good.

Oh. And 50 years old? Jesus.

They use commas for decimal points in Europe. They also use the period instead of commas for thousands separations.

A 68x11 gear at that speed is only a cadence of 53 rpm. There must be some kind of crazy amount of force being put into those pedals. I wonder what weight of leg press would even be comparable - whatever it is I bet I couldn't do 3,180 reps.

those white sidi's are pretty hot... I want me a pair of white sidi, probably be grey after a day of NYC riding though. I also wanna get a frame with that same gearing, except backward! would that be a negative gear ration? I will have no problem on any hills.
