Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'd make a joke about @WhyFi's manhood, but I think it's too soon.

You've got to grasp opportunity when you find it, or all is lost. With humor, timing is everything.

Regarding insects indoors. Guys, how does that happen? Don't tell me you keep your windows open...without effective screens.

If there's a positive to this drought it's that we're getting a jump start on the dystopian future that everyone will see in a couple months.

And the conversation seems to have been somewhat heavily concentrated on guy issues for the past day or so, anyway (NTTAWWT), so I was giving y'all some space. Especially as my only contribution to the main topic would be to describe how to neuter a cat and I was just imagining the simultaneous Addiction collective wince.

Our windows have screens. Door don't and we leave them open wx permitting. Nice things about living on a high arid plain be lack of humidity and really obnoxious bugs.

I can't speak for Heathy, this is unheard of for her. But it's not uncommon for Ramona to be away for extended periods of time.

Au contraire, ma chere. As you well know, in the South we button up our houses and turn on the AC. Open windows happen other places like the North and the West.

I will admit, I have been known to have the A/C on and the windows open at the same time. I've been known to burn the cooking from time to time.
Though I try not to freeze out my house like some other people . When we used to go camping with the extended family (by camping, I mean in cabins with electricity and of course A/C), the first thing my grandmother would do is turn the thermostat down into the fifties. Had to sleep with extra blankets in June .

For us, this crummy apartment isn't sealed well enough to stop fruit flies (daylight around the door). Very ready to get that house.

I know exactly what you mean. Of course NOLA is more humid than many other southern cities. But growing up in the 50's it was still very weird to walk out of my aunts' houses in the summer and have my glasses fog up. I have never had that happen since. Certainly never at my own house in NOLA or Houston.
