Surgeon rides child's bike to get through traffic nightmare for surgery

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Perhaps a folding bike in the trunk for future emergencies.

Cute story, but dramatized a bit for TV.

She wasn't rushing in for an emergency surgery.

"her journey to the surgery center"

I was once also invested in a surgery center.... It's the only place I actually made money.

Haha I used to live there, my ex told me about the horrible traffic that day, said all the streets were pretty much a parking lot. Never expected this though! Great story!

Cool idea! Especially for those who might need to get somewhere in a hurry job-wise in an emergency.

That story just seems like a lame cry for attention. She could probably have ran to the hospital faster than going the few blocks, "testing" the stupid bike, then riding it. Better to get in the paper for being a good surgeon. Let's hope for her patients' sakes that she makes better decisions in the OR.

I'm no doctor, but it seems a bit sketchy health-wise to be wearing scrubs that you have been wearing in contaminated places and cycling in. Hopefully she changed to more sterile clothes.

No... she would never think to do that.

Logically you would think she would and that it would be standard procedure to do so by a hospital or surgery center. I just don't understand why she would have scrubs at home in the first place. It's pretty common to see nurses and doctors in scrubs around Salem headed to work, just seems like an odd way to travel if you'd need to change anyways.

So the cops escorted her instead of giving her a ride?

My thoughts exactly. She pulled a bike onto the highway, which is illegal in most areas, gave some "lame" excuse about a surgery, but didn't get a ride because it wasn't important enough to be there quick...just enough to ride a kids bike down the highway.
This story smacks of BS.

Perhaps the bike was going faster than the cops that escorted her could go
