Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I've known several people who had knee replacements, and most of them were overweight and sedentary. So the talk of "wearing out" knees is pretty much unfounded, you "wear out" your knees by waddling around Walmart weighing 350 lbs, not by riding a bicycle when you're fit.

One important issue has been overlooked here, though, is there any weight savings with the new knee versus the old? Or did you <shudder> actually ADD a few grams with that replacement?

I hear the bionic knee adds like 100 grams. Hey, just another excuse for a future potential upgrade.

So the tread title is "Pcad Rides" but you're not riding? And only The Dude gets to refer to himself in the third person.

Warm up on the trainer today for <10 mins, finally got my knee to go all the way around; raised the saddle 1.5 cm or so to make it a bit easier. Beautiful day outside. Eff it I say to myself, I unclip the Addict from the Cycleops and take it out to the driveway. Spent 20+ minutes spinning around my big driveway and 3 of my neighbors' (these are really long driveways, and the only flat spots up on this steep hill) drives in the 39 x 26. But today, 5 and a half weeks after a total knee replacement, I rode an actual road bicycle on actual roads. No problems. Not really all that sore afterwards either. If it goes like this the rest of the week I'll be on that bike path spinning next weekend.

Now that is good progress. Especially at your advanced age.
