Hello from Oklahoma!

Thanks for letting me in!I haven't been cycling long at all.I'm 45 years old and haven't been on a bike since I was about 15 or so.I recently got the "bug" after my wife beat breast cancer. Our doctors told her that she had to change her diet (get off the processed food, especially sugar) and start getting some exercise.I picked up a used MTB from a friend and started riding it around at my house,up and down the drive way (about a quarter mile one way).I figured if we could start bicycling together that would kill two birds with one stone,exercise/spend time together.I started with a used Shwinn Sidewinder that was about eight to ten years old.It was ok but I was having alot of problems with the shifters and derailleurs and such.I stopped by a bike shop and got on a Specialized Hardrock 650 and was instantly sold.I know it is an entry level bike but that is what I needed and it was in my $$$ range. MTB's are not the only type for me I like all of 'em.I picked up a Rallye Cruiser made in 1990 yesterday for $10.I got the tires aired up on it,made a few minor adjustments and rode the fire out of it on my drive way all evening. It needs some work and I'm thinking of ordering some tools and changing the gears on it so it is more forgiving on the hills. It needs the lower end serviced bad anyhow. It doesn't appear to have been ridden much just stored and neglected for years. All of this has taken place in side of the last two months. So when I say I haven't been at it long you can see what I mean.I hope to learn alot here and share some of my experiences.Thanks,Mule...

Awesome!Another Okie! The terrain and scenery out there must be great for riding.I was lucky enough to find out about a small bike park down by Paris TX (Powderly to be exact) at Pat Mayse lake. There are about 26 miles of trails in it.They range from beginner,beginner/intermediate to intermediate. Can't wait to check it out.Great to meet you, take care...

After my parents divorced when I was little, we left for the west coast. I've been back a couple of times, but I haven't lived there since 1980.

My dad was stationed there for a while as well (before I was born), and my mom joked about the fact that there likely weren't even 29 palms in the whole area.
