'80's Shimano 600 brake cable attachment... need help

Hey all;

I am refurbishing an '80's era road bike with Shimano 600 'arabesque' brakes. The calipers are mounted on the frame and I am ready to install new cables. But, I am not sure exactly how the cable is routed and secured to the brake arm, as well as the position of the brake's little quick release leaver when the brake is ready to ride. Can anyone help me out with a picture of this brake, or a similar model, with the cable attached which will illustrate the correct set-up?

And one other question. These brakes are probably 25 years old, and I'm assuming the pads might be as well. Would you replace them as a matter of course? Or can I get away with sanding the glaze off.

Thanks again. DanO

New pads are cheaper than a trip to the orthodontist.

Work with the cables a bit... You'll figure it out.

I usually replace, but I have a 73 Nishiki with the original Dia Compe pads and that thing will stop like you wouldn't believe.
