Hah, right. They're actually widening the highway and already removed a stretch of trail.

Because messing up someone's excavator always stops the road from being built.

Better still to get involved with your local government where the plans for said road have likely been presented, debated, and approved for some years. Or perhaps your local trail organization where in the future you may be able to present your case and and get an approved trail reroute (if the trail is legal in the first place).

who would try to ride a huge backhoe on singletrack? makes no sense and probably isn't as much fun as a bike. a bicycle seems like a way better choice.
