Motobecane colour

Hi guys

New to the forum, got a Motobecane as a project, it is currently gold, but wiped the frame slightly with some brake cleaner and underneath is like a metallic lime green, I'm wondering if anyone knows what the actual name or the colour is? or does someone know the RAL code for it.

Many thanks, Kelvin

Hello Kelvin,

Welcome to the forum.

Here is one lime green they used for several years in the late sixties and the early seventies.

Doe it look like this or is it a different shade?

For the 1974 model year the Grand Touring model was offered in this green:

Hi Juvela,

Unfortunately not, that's far too green, if you Search for the motobecane c4 and look at the motobecane in the thread that's called show us your French bikes it's the same colour as that!

Many thanks

You can. On the reply window click 'go advanced'. Look in the 'additional options' section under the Advanced area's text input box. Click the Manage Attachments button and add them there. I've seen several new users do this.

The only thing blocked to new users is posting URLs, this is to prevent malware/spam linking from new (bot) users.

I assume you mean this bike: https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2838/...888ece5c_h.jpg

If so, that's almost as awesome as the powdery lilac metallic color.

Machine in photo appears it may date from the 1977-78 time as the gear ensemble is still marked "Huret" rather than "Sachs Huret." This was also the first year for the cycle's model 105BIS chainset.

Sachs acquired Huret somwhere between '78 and '80 (sorry, old guy cannot recall exact year) and Huret products made after the acquisition are typically marked "Sachs Huret." One interesting thing that happened at this time was the first appearance ever of "Huret" complete road ensembles. IIRC their chainset partner was Peyrard (NERVAR).

Regarding the colour - the MB catalogues I recall did not give colour names. Perhaps this changed after a certain date...

Hello everyone,

I have managed to find a colour close enough, it's Peugeot code KAR - I will take some pictures when the frame is painted to see what it's like,

Many thanks, Kelvin

I can confirm on opening the tin to Peugeot Lacerta Yellow (KAR) that it is a good match, albeit a bit darker.

Hope this helps someone looking for a similar colour

Many thanks, Kelvin

It's a moot point, now that the OP has found a suitable colour code, but when Motobecane used this colour on the American models in the mid-1980s, they called it Pistachio.

It's a great color that I remember from that era -- I am glad you found a suitable match.
