Hi all! im new here.
Hello everyone just finally signed up for this site. ive been here for a couple of months now just reading and getting lots of motivation. I started riding to lose some weight but now im addicted to this!
Im 29 years old. I just started riding on Sep 23, 09 and weighed 305lb now im at 239!!! love it. feel better and can not believe that it has come off so fast. Thanks for the motivation here.
I purchased a trek FX7.3 and now really want to get myself a road bike because i have been doing all the races and tours that come up and i am struggling to keep up. well i guess thats good because it pushes me more.
Just got to save some cash and hopefully i will find Kimberly. that will be her name lol!

Congratulations on the weight loss, and welcome to the BF. I'm usually one of the bigger guys on tour when I go also. I started out at around 275 got all the way down to 218 three years ago and due to job losses and stress I am back up to 280. Will start over again this summer to get it back down.

Welcome ericsday. Cycling can definitely be addicting. Congratulations on the weight loss and the race (should of smoked those skinny little so and so's on your hybrid, that'll show em').
My suggestion is always ride as many bikes as you can. Give yourself some time and think about the qualities you want out of the new bike. Also think about what you want to do on your current bike but really aren't able to. This should give you a good idea of where to start.

Great to have you aboard! Fantastic effort on the weight loss. In getting an upgrade on the ride, look into longer cranks. It looks like you are taller than most, longer limbs. I have been reading about the longer cranks. the theory is that since we (Im 6'3,36 inch inseam) we can get better leverage on the spin with longer cranks. You can't go too long without hitting you rear triangle and have to watch dragging a pedal around corners.
There is a custom bike maker for Clyde's sized riders. His last name is Zinn. Read some of his stuff. I think it will be helpful. We can all keep humming that happy tune, Short People have no reasons to live, no reason, ..... something like that.

thanks everyone.
right now i am training for my first 100. its on feb 13 and i gots to finish it!!!! the most ive ever ridden has been 57 miles but i know that i can do it! i want to drop at least 10lb by that date. this cold is not helping either.
tomorrow im back on the bike trail!!! rain or shine.

Motivation is always the key. If you stay focused on your goal of 10 lbs. I'm pretty sure you'll accomplish that.
I congratulate you on your lost weight as well. Keep up the good work. Remember to eat health, and mix up exercises too. Push-ups and pull ups will help keep your upper body looking normal. Might consider walking where you can't ride (I walk the mile to work and home daily 3 times a week because the calories add up). Maybe go walk around the mall 2 times in one week. Really just gotta push past the little things to see those last pounds shed.

Hi Ericdsay - Great Job and Welcome. So you can ride 57!! I say you can ride 100 then. As long as it's not a race but a nice SAG supported ride with plenty of rest stops. Just think of it as 10-20 miles to the next rest stop. YOu wil be awesome. And when you get that road bike you will be amazing!~! You already are. The road bike will make it much easier. Especialy if you do the clip in shoes too. Not sure if in the pic you already use them on your current bike.

yea its will be one of those 10 mile checkpoints kind of ride so i WILL make it!
Right now i use the shimano spd ?? clip less pedals and specialized shoes, i traded some speakers with the bike shop since i have a audio store. Cool indian style barter lol.
yea i have done some races but i just do it for the fun...lol i have yet to come in second...to last lol. i dont care, i feel better.

woohoo, just did another 35 miles and then ran 6 miles. my goal of dropping to 225 by feb 13 is in reach!!! weighed myself for this week and im at 236 now!

eric, if you can do 50, yo0u can do 100. It's all about time in the saddle and proper fueling and hydration, and to hit 50, you need to know how to do that.

its a 14 mile paved trail. nice!
I ordered the Felt Z5
just did a nice 60 mile ride today... 25 mph wind against me is not fun. the whole way going 10 to 12mph.. it was hell...but well worth it!
