OMG the Pollen

It's insane how much pollen we have in the air down here. 5,500 is the count today, anything over 120 is considered extremely high. It's just nuts, the whole world is yellow-green. You can actually see it wafting through the air.
{choke, cough, wheeze}

Our pollen counts this spring:

My brother's car after 24 hours of being parked outside.

Many decades ago (pre-AC and water fueled development) desert Arizona was a destination for algergy sufferers. No native plants cause severe alergy problems.
Then with development came non native plants (olive trees, mulberry, flowers, pine trees, etc.) and lawns and soil disruption which invited non-native ragweeds to establish.
Now developed Arizona desert areas (i.e. metro areas) have some of the worst allergy seasons.

Fortunately I don't suffer, but many of my friends and colleagues do, so I hear about their problems.

Georgia, about an hour due east of Atlanta. It was 89º here yesterday, but only 83º today.

Arizona smells like paradise right now, but Flonase is the only thing keeping me going. (sniff)

Our wisteria is in bloom, smells beautiful, but like everything else it's now yellow/green and not purple.

Here the smell is dominated by citrus blossoms right now. So thick and sweet it can be nauseating.
Sweet Acacia also has a strong smell currently.

The site I found uses a different scale.
0-12

We are at 10.7.

Fortunately, I finally found a mostly OTC combo that is working for me.
Claritin reditabs, Excedrin sinus headache medicine, and prescription eye drops for allergic conjunctivtous.
I can operate.... mostly... too bad my sinuses are bleeding like mad. Going to start using a moisturizing nose spray. Maybe someday I will remember to make an appointment with my doctor before the pollen hits. Give me a week or two more and it should calm down. Freaking stuff starts south and heads north.

Happily, I grew up on a farm and was exposed to huge levels of everything as a kid, from diesel fumes to intense pollen clouds to spending all day working in dust clouds, so nothing much bothers me. Honestly, everyone I knew lived on a farm, and I didn't know anyone who had significant allergies (anything beyond just sneezing if your nose got FULL of dust, which I don't consider an allergy). It was kind of a shock to me when I went to college and saw all these people with these problems; for a long time, I wondered what was wrong with these people that they were so sickly.

I'm a pretty firm believer that in general, the way to an allergy-free life is a happily dirty, grimy childhood. It also builds a nice healthy immune system.

My allergies have been going nuts. I've been mountain biking, so it's been really really bad. I'm allergic to some sort of tree pollen, but I don't know what it is.

I'm allergic to Pink Tree Season. (cherries) It only gets worse as the spring progresses... <sigh>

Ya'll, I feel your pain! And thank God I'm not in Georgia!!

I found some nasal spray at Earth Fare that has been doing a great job but my eyes look like I have a serious affection for pot. Red, glowing orbs of fire they are. I have been using some OTC drops but they aren't doing the job so I'm off to the eye Dr. today. I'm a person who likes to look people in the eye when I talk to them but lately that has just been frightening to folks so wish me luck

Ahh, fellow allergy sufferers, how I feel your pain. Mine act up worse when there's a shift in weather (Say, from 30 to 50 degrees). I started getting shots and that's made it slightly more tolerable, but I still have my days.

The worst part for me is post nasal drip, it's continous, I cough about once every minute. I have yet to find a cure for that

Yeah, its that time of year.
I haven't been able to breath properly for 2 weeks now. Makes the hills a real pain in the butt.
I love all the flowers and green leaves though.

As my wife said yesterday, it's a cruel joke that the time of year you'd most love to open the windows in the house, you don't dare. Everything you own would be covered in yellow dust.

If we're lucky, George Bush will win the War against Nature and we won't have to deal with those terrorist trees and plants anymore.

When I drive to work, that's what my car looks like after 8 hours parked outside. Since I work outdoors I end up with a fine yellow coating as well. Pine tree pollen is my worst offender and we have plenty of pine trees at work. No OTC that I have tried (which in all honesty have been very few) have worked effectively in controlling my allergies...the ones that somewhat worked left me really, really stuffed up. What has worked for me is herbal teas. A mix of echinacea, golden seal, slippery elm, and I know there's something else but I can't think of the name right now, work well at keeping my allergies at bay.

Luckily, pollen doesn't seem to bother me.

My only issue is with the stinking Bradford pear trees that seem to line my commute. They're only really bad n the trip home though.

Lots of pollen here in Siloam Springs, Arkansas as well. My bike was coated the other day by the time I got home. I hate it as I really suffer from some nasty allergies.

I am just south of the OP in Macon, GA and it is horrible. I havent driven my truck in weeks and I had to take my bike to the shop today with it. Well, I had to spray my windshield to even see. It was horrible. It doesnt really bother me though.
