Hi, just wondering other's thoughts on value of this one. I don't have a good feel for it. I *think* it's an 82-83 Campione Del Mundo, which appears to be a mid-level bike. It's tuned up and ready to ride.

Good:
Lugged Italian frame in very good condition
600 tricolor RD and 600 headset, both super clean and smooth
Shimano indexed shifter dialed in
3ttt stem and bars

Not so good
Almost all parts are non-original, assuming it's a 82-83 Campione Del Mundo
Wheels spin well w matching Shimano hubs but are Weinmann and Araya
FD and crankset are Shimano but not 600

It does have the markings of a Campione del Mondo. I’m a bit suspect of the shift cables routing over the BB though. Maybe this was the case pre ‘83.

Pics make it look like a repaint and the build is not great. No Columbus decal to help confirm authenticity to a potential buyer. The skeptical buyer will see the turkey levers and Schrader valves and assume it’s a lower-end model. The hopeful buyer will see the Campy binder bolt, dropout adjusters and pantos as a sign that it’s a higher end frame with a bad build. $150 on the skeptic’s side. Not sure on higher-end side.

Thanks for the observations. I came up with $150 as well just going on the weak build and knowing it's mid-level at best. Yah the Campy binder bold gives me hope that it is legit. Marginal evidence I know! The wheels are blah, but the RD and headset are pretty nice imo. I hear you about the paint, but seems like a lot of trouble to re-badge if it was re-painted. I'm not sure how that works though haha. Yah the Columbus label should be by the shifters, and I see no evidence of it.

Anyway, bottom line is it will be inexpensive for a buyer and rides decently as-is.

More not so good, I don’t think that is a Champione del Mondo from the early 80s. Just going by the lugs, bottom bracket and dropouts, they don’t seem match what’s in the 81 or 83 catalog, certainly no rack mounts or top cable guides, and certainly doesn’t look like mine.

I'd hesitate as well. The paint looks like a garage job, good from 10 feet but...

If you can take it home for a c-note, you would not have a hard time getting your money out of it.

But it's probably not a keeper.

Seems lacking esthetically, like it's has a panache-ectomy. How much sweat and equity to bring that back? Frame should be great. I had the lesser cousin Campione D'Italia, probably the '81, which was a lovely bike that rode nice, but not as nice as this upmarket model. (I started breaking things on it and moved on.)

I listed it for $140 this morning and only specified that it was an 80's lugged steel Bianchi. Got quite a few replies, and sold for $120 by early afternoon. The guy just handed over the $ and took it.

I bought the bike on Saturday for $100 without seeing it... I was fooled by the ad, which only showed the good stuff. Plus, I wasn't savvy enough to catch the iffy stuff. Spent about 3 hours cleaning, de-rusting, and tune-up. Also a newer chain...I had never seen one as stretched as the one it came with.

So I messed up on that one! I'm more of a MTB guy. That's what happens when you don't stay in your lane haha.

You did quite well I think, aside from the frame discrepancies, there was not a single component on that bike that matched the cataloged Champione del Mondo bikes from the early 80s.

Yah, except for the color scheme and decals, nothing in common. Maybe the seatpost bolt . To be clear, I did NOT advertise it as a Campione del Mondo after getting the feedback from you folks.

Lack of chrome on the crown, eyelets on the dropouts and recessed brakes pretty much rule out and '81 Campione de Mondo.

You reallt need to see and stampings on the dropouts and the bb threading. The fact it could be a repaint makes it real bubious but it's very likely a early '80s Italian frame maybe more like a Nuovo Racing or even Nuovo Touriung or even 980 frame. It's like to be TreTubi Columbus with Falck stays
