Dura Ace Uniglide hub
I recently was able to remove the uniglide freehub body from an old dura-ace hub I have. I've read and re-read Sheldon Brown's description of these things, but I'm still a bit confused--can I now replace the freehub body with a hyperglide body and be good to go? Is the threading for the freehub bodies standardized?

LOL that is a great qustion and I am in a similar quandry. I have some 600 hubs I wanted to do the same thing to.
if I read everything correctly the hubs bodies will interchange OK but you need a cone and dustcap to match the new freehub body.

I think a 7402 (special small cog DA uniglide) hub will only take a hyperglide body from a 7403 (DA 8 spd hyperglide) hub. If you used a 10mm hex key to remove the freehub body it will most likely work. If it took a special tool to remove the old body you are probably stuck with the uniglide body unless you can find a 7403 freehub body, which seem to be made out of unobtanium.

Did you have the special tool that removes 740x DA freehub bodies, or did you improvise? FH-10TL? IIRC
In any case, the only HG freehub body that fits the 740x series is the 7403 hub body, also known some places as WH8088.
Good luck finding either separate from a complete hub. I've been through this exercise.
Now BG, yours is easy. 10mm hex wrench. Pull the UG off, install the HG body. It's nice to have a newer "HG" axle (or at least some parts) with the swap, as the dust covers are often different. The UG will also have been 126mm spaced, your new HG body (I'm assuming you want to go 8-10s) will be 130mm. You may have to adjust some spacing on the axle if you reuse the old one.

I can't recall, but I think I used a special tool, yes. I had found it among the tools at the shop I was working at. Guess I'll just leave it hanging there in storage a while longer...
