I need to correct myself here. You could get your crank and pedal wrench slightly out of line and use your grip to create a nice/tight couple.

That's OK, the bike isn't floating in space unsupported.

Nothing clever, just levers. Standing over the rear wheel, put the cranks horizontal and the wrench horizontal rearwards on the front pedal; pull up on the rear crank while pressing down on the wrench. If you need more force strap the crank to the chainstay, then you can step on the wrench.
