Spent a lot of thought and effort into this build, but it just sits in the basement...perhaps I'll sell it this summer. The top tube guides were rebuild be a local frame-builder...2/3 were broken.

A mix of Campagnolo components.

The red looks like it has been kept away from the dreaded UV .
Coincidentally I have two of these top tube cable guides in my spares :-)

Thanks! As the story was told to me, it was a NOS frame that had some 'storage damage' to the top tube. There's a scratch hiding under the downtube decal - if you look closely, you'll notice that they're reproduction stickers.

This one has left the building today.

Have seen a Alan frame / Guerciotti decal locally advertised for not a lot of money .
The only hitch is a repair to dropout .

Any thoughts on how safe this would be ?

I got a frame with the same issue.



I've never ridden it but I'll ask the former owner if he did ride it after welding. He was a sub-top amateur rider in those days, often the winner of the peloton sprint.
The one holding the bike on the left.



And he's the father of the winner of the Grand Départ in the Tour de France, Bruxelles, 2019.
Strong guy.

1simplexnut I got an answer. He didn't ride himself on the bike since the welding but several people did, without any problem.

I would ride it, but I have been known to make questionable decisions
if you do get it, keep a keen eye on that repair and you should be fine, but I aint guaranteeing anything

That weld looks pretty good. I suspect it's just as strong as it was, before it cracked apart.

Serial number or frame number, that's the question.
How important is the number under the bottom bracket?

I bought one that had a repaired dropout similar to the one pictured above, It held for at least 1k miles before the seat tube broke at the BB. I then had that welded and it was fine for a while until it developed a creak that I could never find. At that point I decided it was time to retire the bike and finally get a good look at the construction of the joints.

Possibly the heat from the welding loosened the glue in the bracket lug.
It looks like a big size frame.

About 1990. You mean 'specc'ed' as engraved lugs? Nope, none. There are mtb's who do have.



And on the headlug too. I saw pictures with engraved forkcrown.
But this is for sure Alan, all the small details are correct.
This is from the 1992 catalog.



I still own another, also no engravements on the lugs.

Thanks for the feedback. I meant specc'ed like what parts were OEM on the bike. Looking at the catalog, it appears they were sold as framesets. Good to know.

Finally I know what they mean by "screwed and glued": thanks to this photo, I can see that the tube ends and insides of the BB shell are actually threaded!
