Denver Mountain Roads With Shoulders?

Are there any big climbs near the Denver area that have wide shoulders? I road up CO 72 today and was pretty disturbed by the lack of shoulders and the speed and amount of cars driving past me. Any good alternative routes?
Thanks!
Alan

Not really with shoulders, but Deer Creek Canyon (Ken Carryl), Golden Gate Canyon (Golden), Lefthand Canyon (Boulder), St Vrain Canyon (Lyons) are all friendlier than Coal Creek Canyon (72) - you picked one of the worse ones. Also avoid Boulder Canyon (119).

Deer Creek Canyon brings you up to some awesome steep little mountain roads with low traffic - High Grade, Shadow Mountain, Brook Forest, Parmalee Gulch, Turkey Creek, City View, etc.

The Squaw Pass road has a shoulder now. I don't recall how far up the road the extends. It is much nicer now that it has been repaved.

Thanks!
I guess I'm going to have to drive a little ways from my house to get started. I live on Standley Lake, so was hoping 72 would be better. Thanks for the suggestions!
