We took a short (11 mile) ride yesterday and the chain behaved itself and didn't jump into the wheel during about 15 shifts onto the largest cog. It still shifts like an old Spanish dirt bike (grind, crunch, etc).

While I had the bike apart I installed one of those cool, hip plastic spoke guards just to be safe if the chain misbehaves, and I noticed there is a bit of damage to the spokes. Ug.

A NOS replacement RD from Santana arrived yesterday, so I'm going to replace the DR and see if that helps.
