Dent On Aluminum Frame Downtube From Chain Drop. Should I Be Worried?
Upon pulling my cranks and cleaning my bottom bracket I noticed a small dent on my downtube to my Trek ALR 2019 model. At first, I didn't know what it was from. Then I realized I have dropped chains before and I never installed a chain drop stopper. Should I be worried about this dent? The bike performs fine and it doesn't have a crack or anything. Sucks because I just got it last year. What are your thoughts? Should I reach out to Trek about this?

I wouldn't worry about the dent, but do not try to pull it back out. Even if you're successful, the process of pulling the dent will further weaken the structure of the tube.

Thanks. Yeah I suppose it may have been there for a bit. I’m going to get a chain guard to prevent it from dropping. I may have one from an older frame.

If that were on a chain stay, it might be a little more concerning. Aluminum or steel with that dent in that location isn't something I'd fred about.

It will be fine. I bought a CAD 4 frame with a much bigger dent in the top tube and I've had it for over 10 years and it's fine.
