Sure you can. 47T / 11T with a 50mm tire is about 86 gear-inches.

A double crankset doesn't bother me the least.

Changing the goalposts.

In any case, a Zee RD which is shorter than any Road short-cage RD can span 42T.

The subject of the discussion is not what bothers you, but rather what is less expensive, less redundant, simpler, lighter. It's not about you.

Yes, and I need that 85 or 86 gear inch high. The 47T could allow me a little smaller low cog. It can be done, if I really needed to do so. It's great that they have more compact derailleurs to do it. But heck, I can't even go 8-speed without swapping out the freehub body. If I had any motivation to go more speeds on the cassette, it's to use the higher quality 10/11/12 chains, which, counterintuitively, are more durable, according to ZFC. My lovely HT2 crank was advertised as 8/9 speed, I don't know if I'll need a different chainring for that, probably, right now it looks like the width is just a hair under the roller width on the chain. So, needing all new parts, that'll probably be for the next folder I convert, not this one. Truth be told, if I tour, I may need more than 400%, so it might be a wider rear and still be 2X. Some have said you want 526% (I think that is the spec for a Rohloff).

)
I can tell you that the ZEE which has a small cage like a road sora or ultegra can deal very well with 11-36. and I believe it can do better as mine(2nd hand) had the B screw too engaged when I go it and 1st installed so previous owner run it with something much bigger.

I wish it were not so, because 1X would give me finer gear steps and no redundant gears. I know folks here have done it, but I still want more RD clearance than that, if I can.s.
Not sure, but I am about to fit a 69T chainring with a 1x9 11-40 cassette and a "small" cage altus M310. I 'll let yo know how it goes.

What size wheels and tires? My guess is 20" or smaller, with a 69x11. My guess on the BCD is 5x130?
